HAPPY NEW YEAR!

New Beginnings
by Gertrude B. McClain

It's only the beginning now
...a pathway yet unknown
At times the sound of other steps
...sometimes we walk alone

The best beginnings of our lives
May sometimes end in sorrow
But even on our darkest days
The sun will shine tomorrow.

So we must do our very best
Whatever life may bring
And look beyond the winter chill
To smell the breath of spring.

Into each life will always come
A time to start anew
A new beginning for each heart
As fresh as morning dew.

Although the cares of life are great
And hands are bowed so low
The storms of life will leave behind
The wonder of a rainbow.

The years will never take away
Our chance to start anew
It's only the beginning now
So dreams can still come true.

Happy New Year from the Crew.

PRU, hope you had a happy new year.
A new beginning is what we definitely need for certain.
April can't come soon enough.
I hope the new aldermen we have won't have the same old thinking.
I'm tired of the infighting and the stupid shallow arguments.

Happy New Year.

Will we get to see the budget meeting video this year?

We don't know if the Council budget workshop video will be uploaded any time soon. You should feel free to ask your elected officials about it.

If you've got the time and interest, you can review the supporting documents from the last budget workshop -- they have been posted on the City website.

Happy New Year, and thanks for being an alternate and(entertaining) source of information about our community.

Read the articles about Bell, California, for a lesson on what happens in the absence of a strong Fourth Estate.

Gee, you mean our tax dollars going to help those affected by the flood?? You mean our tax dollars going to help those less fortunate?? You mean the program the Mayor encouraged everyone to take advantage of while hammering local programs to help others?? That program????

Anonymous @ 7:32,

The same program promoted by Mayor DipSchmidt and from which tax dollars were spent for a lovely Stroger-promo party at Lincoln Park Zoo, which I also believe was enjoyed by PR's own Charlie M. & Co. ;)

...:::sigh:::..."fiscal conservatives" in action...

So wait a sec....the guy who made the video complaining about it actually went to the party?!?!?!?! While his family "suffered" with an unfinished basement and a crowded upstairs he was off having a cocktail or two????

Anonymous @ 10:15,

Per the Huffington Post 12/1/10...

>>Now, it's been revealed that lame-duck Cook County Board President Todd Stroger spent nearly $80,000 in federal grants on a trip to the zoo.

It's not quite as bad as it sounds (although it's close). The trip was for thousands of victims of flooding in the county, and the grants were intended for flood relief. But, as the Chicago Tribune reports today, the chief executive of the second-largest county in America spent more than $8,000 in federal disaster-relief dollars on "a prize raffle, an interactive disc jockey, a face painter, seven caricature artists, a juggler and a stilt walker.<<

Phew! No "cocktails" appear to have been involved!

...but *somebody* did say, and I quote, "It was a nice thing for the County to do"...and here's the video of him saying it,

Charlie, you nitwit...yeesh!
