Monday Two-fer!

#1 -- Monday Meeting Menu!

6:15 p.m. Liquor License Review Board -- We have to give the mystery Tinley Park restaurant owner creds for seemingly asking for permission instead of forgiveness!

7:00 p.m. Dee Rd. Sidewalk Project / Public Information Meeting -- Walk if you got 'em! It's for the children!

7:30 p.m. City Council Meeting -- Promises to be another exciting evening! We can't wait for report item a under City Council!

#2 -- Can You Spot the Difference?

As of noon today, the revised draft minutes (.pdf) for the 2/3/10 City Council meeting don't quite match the content of the video from that meeting, which we posted here. The minutes never really do -- but some omissions are glaring!

Who recently hostessed a fundraiser for this asshole here in Park Ridge?

Total b.s.

If you've got a beef with Cullerton and secret government meetings, take it up with his Republican counterpart:

"The Republicans' Senate leader, Christine Radogno of Lemont, supported Cullerton's plan to bar the public and media, saying it was part of an effort to promote more cooperation between Democrats and Republicans."

Maybe I will take it up with Mr. Mayor Transparency because he was a Cullerton sponsor too.

Kass calls it "the Combine" for a reason...

I agree with 11:20 that Cullerton is an asshole. But I also agree with 11:35 and Bean that it shouldn't be a Democrat or Republican issue.

But what does that have to do with Park Ridge government? If somebody wants to hold a fundraiser for Cullerton, or Radogno, or Obama or Cheney, why does it matter?

Anonymous @ 5:44,

Thank you for your agreement...and now that the pleasantries are out of the way...

You ask a good question, why does it matter if somebody wants to hold a fundraiser for any of those politicians...it's an excellent question...

More specifically, why would somebody hold a fundraiser for any of those politicians, specifically...a most excellent question...

Got any ideas?

I haven't got any ideas. I only know I am sick of politicians. All of them. The constant fighting is dumb and pointless.

Bean:

I wouldn't hold a fundraiser for any politician, but many people do for a variety of reasons including because they support what the politician is trying to do, or they are looking for favors from the politician, or they are doing a favor for somebody else (e.g., "Hey, can I put you down as one of the 'hosts' for this fundraiser I'm throwing for so-and-so?").

In the past several years we've had a mayor who I believe was an official with the Maine Twp. Republicans while mayor, and at least one alderman who I believe was an official with the Maine Twp. Democrats while an alderman. I don't like either of those affiliations, but I'm unaware of anything that prohibits them.

So once again, why is this an issue for anybody?

Anonymous @ 9:30,

My guess is the first commenter here has knees which jerk whenever the "D"-word is mentioned...and I think it's pretty cowardly to "hit-n-run" in the manner in which the commenter seems to have done so, without coming back to answer the questions and assertions others have made on the subject.

...but now that we're "here"...

I think we should stop beating around the bush...

The most likely reason that the President of the Uptown Condo Homeowners Assoc. hosted a fundraiser for Sen. Dan Kotowski, where Ill. State Senate President, John Cullerton was the "featured speaker," is because she has a development project she's been hawking ad nauseum...the "hawking" consisting of lots n' lots of parties, where lots n' lots of elected officials and city staff are invited to "mingle."

The project she is looking to build, possibly along the Higgins corridor, would probably require "political support"...or in this particular case, "$upport," as in tax dollars and the use of eminent domain...

The UCHA President has been "talking with" Sen. Kotowski (along with anyone else who has a functioning pair of ears) about her pet project, and I've no doubt Kotowski "feels" he has her support...[that] dynamic is, of course, what one learns and strives to achieve in being a lobbyist...

So...the above covers at least the first and second points in your response...and I'm going to strongly suggest it's the second point which should be the "heavy favorite."

In regard to your third point...that's the likely reason Mayor DipSchmidt, and other self-proclaimed "R"-wingers, were listed as part of the host committee. However, in the case of Mayor DipSchmidt there is also the "promise" of a nice fat campaign contribution...it was offered in the past and didn't materialize, as far as I know...but "tomorrow is another day."

For Mayor DipSchmidt, and the political terrain he has to navigate, it was a stupid "move," no matter how much anyone tries to defend it or spin it as being "non/bi-partisan" cooperation. Schmidt ran on a platform bathed in promises of open government and transparency...and now his name is linked very strongly (though only locally and on the "back channels") to a guy who is anything but, according to the article cited...along with Schmidt allowing more fodder for feeding the rumors of his being an Evanston-dem "plant" who was "sent here" by Jan Schakowsky."

Political affiliations don't bother me all that much...it's public policy positions I tend to care about.

...but make no mistake about it, what is taking place on this particular issue, as it concerns Park Ridge, is definitely our own Park Ridge version of Kass's "combine" and you'll have to get over minding very much if I say it stinks.
