Community Dunces?

On Monday, we mentioned that the owner of Napleton Cadillac should probably be recognized as some sort of Community Star because to us it looks like the pending $2.4million deal being considered by the city for Napleton may be the most impressive Return On Investment (ROI) that we're aware of, for a local "investor".

The article about honoring Community Stars by the Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce was a piece published in the Herald-Advocate a couple of weeks ago. The article notes:

"Seven new "stars" will be honored for their work in the community during the Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce's 72nd annual Recognition Dinner on Saturday, Jan. 26.

The dinner will be held at Rosewood Restaurant and Banquets, 9421 W. Higgins Road in Rosemont on Jan. 26"
Today we read about the election of new officers to the Park Ridge Chamber in an article in the Journal & Topics.

Of course, the Journal's reporter failed to mention the location of the dinner.

In any event, maybe the new officers of the Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce will keep their mission statement in mind and remember their own recent advertising campaign - "Shop Local" - the next time they schedule their Community Stars and Installment of New Officers dinner. Maybe next year they can find a place to...uh..."dine local"?

there's only so much Crystal Banquets one can take!

Markos' Crystal Palace must have been booked that night. And when he gets his variances and sells out to CVS, all of these kindsof dinners will have to be held out of town - you don't expect the Chamber to have the food catered into the Maine South cafeteria, do you?

and the Hooters waitresses probably weren't available to work an event at the Country Club!

Define "local"...

Rosewood is a member of the chamber. Maybe the chamber abandoned its' shop local public relations effort so as not to screw the non-Park Ridge-located member businesses out of business?

How many people show up for this dinner?

Question. What does the Chamber do anyway?

We read their mission statement, but we still can't say for sure what they do. It struck the crew as the business equivalent of Facebook; social networking.

It does look like they eat a lot since their mission statement includes "luncheon, dinner and workshop meetings are open to the public".

The Chamber's website states that the Chamber "will work towards developing, maintaining and strengthening the business and professional community so that Park Ridge remains a wonderful place to live and to work." No mention about them "shopping locally," so they must mean just us civilians who live here. How much sales tax - or any other tax does the Rosewood pay to Park Ridge?

it's actually a good networking group for small businesses and individuals who need help in making local contacts. there's membership dues each year, in addition to fees to attend functions like this luncheon.
the Pres is the owner of the State Farm agency in South Park (cannot remember her name) and she is quite sharp.

duh, and if I took the time to read the article before I wrote the last post I would know that they are going to swear in a new President!
maybe there just aren't enough options in PR right now.

Hard to believe there's a typo in today's article. Given PRU's standards of excellence and legion of editors and proofreaders, it's almost unheard of.

It's the crews visceral aversion to all things Journal.
