Thanks for the referral, which brought about my first visit to that site. I will add it to my daily reading, right after PRU.
Was it the fair housing advocates that entreated PADS to come to town? Is this true?
And not to get too off topic, but the What Would Jesus Not Do antics of our local Catholic pastors are more out of control than previously demonstrated. Word has it that there is a not-so-tacit agreement that has MSW vowing not to take transfers from SPC. Here's a sign from the MSW bulletin for your window instead of "We support the homeless" It's "hey you kids - get lost!"
After all you Catholics are done convincing the leadership of your Church that their position (and I have to be careful here not being religious)and I think they would say Jesus' position is wrong, why don't you move on to having them change the contraception thing. Knowone follows that one anyway.

if that is true, then I am even more disgusted with PR Catholics than ever. YES I am a Catholic but don't attend church in PR.
Back To Ms. Parsons...is she SERIOUSLY the person who is pushing all of this and creating these issues in our town?
It would appear at this point all we have is rumor. Someone said they heard her reference a phone call with PADS at a meeting which they took to mean prior to PADS comming to PR.
What the hell...that is enough to hang our hat on, right??
Don't forget the unwritten Catholic clergy doctrine of child molestation - and the companion doctrine of concealing it.
I'm also a Catholic and believe in the religion itself. But I'm less than impressed with the holier than thou attitude of people like Morello, Gunderson, Stone, etc, especially when they stick their noses into social and political issues where their opinions are no better informed (and maybe worse) than everybody else's.
rumor is not fact and should not be taken for it. but if the rumor is all you've got because parson isn't talking, the rumor serves a valuable purpose of at least raising the public's curiosity and awareness.
Catholicism is facinating. I never new there was such a thing as a PR Catholic. The doctrine of the faithful must be a very complicated documet - being broken down by zip code and all!
But I guess ya'll are fortunate to have such a flexible religion. If you don't like what you hear just switch zip codes.

News Flash: The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago has reached a settlement of more than $12 million with clergy sex-abuse victims.
Fr. Morello, Fr. Gunderson and Fr. Stone: How many homeless could you take care of the right way, not just one day a week, with $12 million that your Archdiocese is paying out for more of the kind of arrogance you have displayed.
There are many hypocrites on parade in this whole debacle. The cool thing is we get to focus on which ever one supports our position and ignore the rest.
The Catholic Church would never want me to defend them - after all I am a heathen. Beyond that, I cannot imagine a defense for clergy/sex-abuse mess. What a terrible horrible thing for those victims and families. Who knows, children still may be at risk....but I digress.
The core or your argument is that to avoid hypocricy the Catholic Church can no longer help anyone, or at least do so in a way that you do not agree with. I just cannot see that happening. After all, from what I hear, the Catholic Church already has rules that people have ignored for 50 years and has never changed them.

I agree with Hypocrites on Parade when it comes to the pro-PADS people trying to get their way by saying that they're doing what Jesus would do.
As has been said here many times before, if the operative term is WWJD, then you have to be a hypocrite to set up a homeless shelter for only 20 people for only one night a week only from October through April.
But it sure let's those hypocrites feel morally superior to those parents who don't want to put their kids at risk, or who don't think that the PADS program is a scam, or who would prefer to focus their efforts and money on Park Ridge residents who are going through tough times rather than on strangers on the PADS tour.
Its more than a rumor about MSW not taking SPC kids, its true. Any student entering MSW needs to get the approval of Fr. Carl's homeless co-conspirator. As a matter of reference another name for a PR Catholic is a triple 'C'; 'Country Club Catholic'. These people are the most important parish members of Fr. Carl. I challenge anyone to find a triple 'C' that oppose PADS. Fr. Carl does not give a rats behind about anyone else in that parish. I always say 'follow the money'.
Ok...so you send your kids to Catholic school and now this comes up.
Although not a Catholic, I would argue that if you have been going to Mass and listening all these years this should not have been a shock - it is what I would expect from the Catholic Church.
Now of course honest people can disagree on issues. You call Fr. Carl and other church leaders all kinds of things as an expression of your anger and dissappointment. I understand these feelings and I applaud your passion on the issue (especially because I too have issues with PADS in PR).
What I do not understand is this. All thsee things have been said (It would appear by members of the Catholic faith) about this "horrible selfish" decision on the part of the Church and yet now you complain that another Catholic school won't let you in. In light of all that has been said, and in light of the headline in the Tribune this morning why the hell do you want to put your kid through this. You say all these horrible things about the church and you talk of safty yet you want to send your kid back to this place you obviously don't like.
Come on over to District 64.
I want my kids in a Catholic school, and I'm willing to pay for it (which provides extra cash for D-64, by the way). Just because Morello, Gunderson, etc. are being arrogant jerks about the PADS shelter doesn't make the religion or the school bad, just like having an idiot like George W. Bush as president doesn't make our country bad.
Throughout this whole PADS mess it's been the clergy and their supporters who have played the WWJD card and say they're above the law because their religious and this is their ministry (because everything tthey do is their ministry, I guess).

it is shameful what Fr. Carl has done to this town. This man that his followers call "a good man" is tearing apart a community and teaching the children a terrible lesson. This ISNT how you get your message across.

I have been struggling with this complex PADS issue and all the lines have been drawn over the last several months.
It appears I was overcomplicating the matter. Apparrently the issue is very simple - it is father Carl's fault.
But the good news is that all the parishiners and SPC parents have to do is wait a few months. Fr. Carl is leaving. Since Father Car' is the problem (not the Catholic church, not the churches teachings and mission of charity) whoever replaces him will obviously recind his heritic actions and the shelter will go away - right???
You gotta be dumb to think that.
