Whhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyy???

Tonight's City calendar includes a meeting of the Fair Housing Commission. Among the documents listed for the meeting is a draft letter to the City Council.

The PRU Crew is going to ignore the extreme hyperbole and misinformation contained in the draft letter and simply offer our opinion as to whhhyyy whhhyyy whhhyyy the City Council's Procedures and Regulations committee seems to be pulling up the reins on the Fair Housing Commission and the unelected appointees who populate it.

The Fair Housing Commission, chaired by the infamous Nan Parson who is so ably aided and abetted by former 3rd Ward Alderman, Sue Bell, has consistently failed to recognize that they are not, never have been, and are unlikely to become a political action committee for affordable housing and other do-gooder social justice causes.

The Fair Housing Commission has consistently overstepped its mandate of carrying out city policy, as determined by the City Council, and has continually sought to expand its role in determining that policy.

The Fair Housing Commission's chairman, Nan Parson, cannot seem to remember the difference between the issues of "fair housing" and "affordable housing"; hint: they aren't the same things!

The Fair Housing Commission has aggressively sought to determine city policy through almost constant bombardment of the city attorney with requests for legal work to change the city's fair housing ordinance.

The Fair Housing Commission has sought to use the Park Ridge - Niles School District curriculum to advance their social agenda by requesting that the district include in its elementary school curriculum special attention to the narrow issue of fair housing.

In short, the Fair Housing commission, and particularly Nan Parson and Sue Bell, have been real pains in the ass; incessantly whining, grabbing for policy-making power, attempting to influence district 64 curriculum, and consuming city resources of attorney and staff time at a Nascar clip!

The PRU Crew applauds Alderman James Allegretti (4th Ward), Alderman Dave Schmidt (1st Ward), and Alderman Thomas Carey (6th Ward) for kicking your asses back into line.

Carry on, gentlemen!

Thanks PRU Crew, for always bringing new issues to light that most would otherwise not be aware of.

Upon reading this I took a little time to log on to the City site to see what you were talking about.

It seems that the Fair Housing Ordinance has been on the Proceedures and Regulations agenda for at least the last 6 months. I'm guessing that is because, according to your post, some members of the Fair Housing commission are unhappy with something or things in their ordinance.

Could you tell me, to your knowledge, has there ever been another commission or board or committee that has tried to change, or been unhappy or even unwilling to adhere to their own ordinance that required months and months of consideration, legal time, staff time, and committee or council review?

I'm just wondering because it seems strange.

There are several SLUMLORDS who rent in PR, take advantage of tenants, rent sub-standard residences, keep deposits for made up damages, etc. At least one has a building infested with rodents/ insects who slides right by the City departments. Before you roll your eyes, look around your neighborhood. It could be close to you!
Not all, but many, landlords in PR who own these 4+ unit buildings should be under the microscope of this group.
Of course, they are probably political contributors to Frimark...

"fair Housing" law deals in discrimination in housing practices. It does not deal in slumlord, tenant landlord disputes, or building violations. Although some of those things are overlooked by the city departments that handle those issues, they are in no way Fair Housing issues by nature.

Check H.U.D. they are very specific.

yep, and the slumlords in PR know it.

You are correct 2:14. Ms.
Manchester, these matters should be brought to the attention of the new City Manager and his staff who are charged with enforcing our landlord-tenant laws. The Fair Housing Commission has nothing to do with these issues, nor should they. If, after a reasonable period of time, the new City Manager fails to address these issues, then they should be brought to the attention of the City Council. I agree with you...slumlords should not be tolerated. They are the lowest of low, because they take advantage of the poorest and weakest in our society.

If memory serves, when Frimark ran for Mayor he peppered all the low cost apartment buildings on Touhy with "Frimakr for Mayor" signs.

Coincidence?

How long ago was this Mouse? Remember we have a new administration about to take over in a couple weeks. This information should be resubmitted to the new City Manager. You'll have to give him a little time to get his feet wet. If you receive no response after a reasonable time (say early to mid-August), get ahold of me and I'll see what I can do.

alderman dave--as always, you are the responsive one.
I'll bend your ear next time I see you on the train. ;)

Good luck with Howard and Sue and the rest of that gang who met out of town one evening. Yes - they are plotting folks - trust us.

Thank you.

Hey Mouse- when you talk to me, are you going to stay incognito, or will you reveal your identity? I promise to keep it a secret, like Albert did for Bruce Wayne.

Just one question is Nancy Parson releated to the owner of a former clothing store Parson's wich closed in 1992.
His first name was Chris and I can't remember if his last name was Parson or Parsons.

Anonymous said...

Yep ...Nan is Chris Parson's wife.

I do remember that Parson's store, it had a charming collection of women's clothing - wish it was still here! But the Starbucks makes a nice addition with the tables in the outdoor court.

Alderman Dave--not incognito! ha!
We actually chatted on the train the day after Detroit won the Stanley Cup.
I will catch up with you soon.

That was a glorious day. See ya soon Mouse.

Hey Dave, get your facts straight!!

Bruce Wayne's bulter is ALFRED, not Albert.

SHHEEESSSHHH.

I knew that. Albert is his mechanic.

Hey - did anyone hear that CVS is in a secret deal with Billy N.? That would be a real kicker...for that old property.

Anonymous said...

Question? What do you mean by a secret deal? I am sure I am missing something. I am not as informed as many seem to be on this issue.

Doesn't Mr. N. own the property? If so, then doesn't he have the right to have discussions with anyone who is inteested in buying or leasing the property?

Of course what ever business had an interest would have to fit within the rules, guidlines and zoning of the city. If there was some deal that is done to avoid these requirements, then I can see how this would be an issue.

Are you saying that somehow he is obligated let us all know exactly who he has had or will have discussions with related to his property? If that is your point then I completely disagree.
