While some folks who read this site are working to get signatures on a petition to bring the new police station to referendum I believe that there is an additional effort we can make with your help.
If you would post each alderman’s email address and ask each visitor to send an email to their alderman in opposition to the new station we may get their attention.
This email should include the writers name and address so the alderman knows they live in their ward and can vote them out.

Or those who are interested could go to the city web site (www.parkridge.us), click on contacts and phone directory and see the e-mail addresses of every alderman.

Would you like them to write the letter for you as well??

anonymous at 7:53pm,
while that is a nice idea, obviously you do not live in a land ruled by Allegretti who does not respond to telephone or emails from citizens. It is a WASTE OF TIME. I doubt he even reads them before deleting.

I was at last weeks P&Z meeting and 1 of the plans is to try to moderize existing structures.

My thought on this is, Can't the owners do that themselves?

Just to share a different experience (and this is coming from someone with absolutely zero "juice" in this town). I e-mailed Allegretti with questions and concerns after the flood and he got back to me the next day. I will grant you I was not crazy about every answer he gave me but he did reply in a timely manner.

I also e-mailed Frimark after the runway open and the next day I see a cell number on caller ID. I pick up and it was Howard. Again, he was not able to give me the perfect answer but he did follow with me on my e-mail.

I should also add that I sent an e-mail to an offical at the Ohare noise commission and copied Aldrman Bach and he was very prompt in following up with me.

My point is not that we should applaud these elected officials for what is basic follow up and common courtesy. I just want to share that my experience when I have tried to contact an elected official had been different then yours. Why, I have no idea!!!

By the way, I forgot to mention, let's just think about this e-mail thing. I do not offer this as an excuse. All the officials decided to campaign for office knowing what the job entailed. All of us should hold them responsible for performing their duties.

But back to e-mail. I have an admin. assistant who has access to my office mailbox and a part of their responsibility is performing triage on my e-mail getting rid of all the usless crap that I do not even need to see. I still spend several hours a day on e-mail and carry a blackberry so that I can get messages at the freakin' grocery store.

I guess this means that I am not public service minded, and I am confident no one would vote for me anyway, but this is another one of the reasons I would never run for alderman. Imagine how many e-mails they receive every week with general questions. Then imagine how many they must receive during one of the many PR crises. I would bet it was hundreds on PADS or the police station or the runway.

So I am as pissed as anyone else about some of the issues that have occured in the time I have lived here but my response is tempered to a degree because there is no way in hell I would ever willing do that job.

I have emailed Allegretti 17 times in the past 5 months, very politely and professionally, about several different issues. I have NEVER received a response.
I also emailed AND called Frimark. Same lack of response.
I find them both to be the dominant clowns of the circus.

I do not blame you for being pissed off. I would be very angry if our eleceted officials didn't respond to me in a timely manner.

It is just that (I have no idea why) in my limited contacts with alderman and the mayor, my experience has been very different then yours.

I have some significant differences with them on some of the major issues but willingness to reply to my questions or discuss them face to face (at the farmers market, taste of PR, or at various places I have seen them around PR) has not been one of them.

Mouse,

The reason you get the shaft is easy - Howie and AllSpaghetti are hoping to court the support of people like A 6:43 / 7:02 / 8:34. They already know they don't have a hope in hell of gaining your support. When called to the mat - when it is certain to not be a love-in - their idea of winning is not showing up.

I guess I am trying to figure out what the hell your post means. Are you saying that anonymous is somehow a known person in PR and the Alderman sees their e-mail and just says screw it? Believe me it is not that they see my e-mail and think I am something special - I am a virtual political zero in this town.

In terms of a "love in" I can assure you that neither my alderman or the Mayor would tell you that my dialogue with them has been warm and fuzzy!

In terms of courting my vote I, and I hope most voters, am not stupid enough to base my judgement on a phone call. I will be judging past promises and past performance as well as what they want for the future of Park Ridge.

Lastly, I always find it funny how anyone who says even the slightest thing positive about any one in politics in this town (with the exception of alderman Dave) is immediately dubbed a Frimark sympathizer. I replied to a post becuase my experience had been different.

Can anyone - anyone -give me an example of something positive and non-partisan that Mayor Liemark - err. . . Frimark -- has done for this City? Anyone? Bueller?

(This is only partially in jest - I really am curious to know if there is anything for which we can honestly thank our incumbent Mayor.)

Hmmm. . . participation in a parade (down a street for which he has expressed obvious disdain) and TOPR.

Well gee golly. I guess he IS qualified to be Mayor!
