The Show Must Go On!

Once again, our City Council will be meeting tonight to discuss matters of great import for the public good. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM at Washington School, 1500 Stewart Ave., Park Ridge.

As PRU readers know, the council will be discussing the requirements for regulation of homeless shelters. The related documents for tonight's meeting can be reviewed on the city website, here. The PRU Crew and others have noted that the documentation published for review by the city is incomplete -- the minutes of the City Council discussion portion of the C.O.W. are conspicuously absent. However, a news release (.pdf) issued by the city on behalf of Mayor Howard late last week tells everyone that Mayor Howard has been thinking overtime to try to find a solution to the burning problem of homelessness here in Park Ridge.

As one of our friendly correspondents put it, "Even the clown in the big chair seems to be getting a clue on this...homeless shelters do not belong inside schools." And that is why the PRU Crew is hoping the members of the City Council will vote to adopt the zoning text amendment as recommended by the Planning and Zoning Commission. We are also hoping the members of the City Council will adopt the other reasonable regulations being suggested by their constituents.

It looks like the stupid PADS debate is finally coming to an inglorious end. I'm not holding my breath about any real or solid regulations being put in place. Howie is looking to buy votes for his reelection any way he can. Howie will make sure his puppets give the holy rollers everything they want in one form or another.

It will be interesting to see at tonight's meeting if Robert Ryan, in whose ward the new shelter site would be, has any feedback from neighbors as to how comfortable they are with having a homeless shelter nearby. Actually, it would be interesting to see if Ryan himself has an opinion!

The Public Works Service Center on Busse Hwy., West of Greenwood Ave., sits just inside the 3rd ward, between the 4th and 3rd ward boundary. Those wards are represented -- o.k., go ahead and laugh -- by Allspaghetti and Carey, respectively.

Thanks for the clarification! Although my question is equally entertaining applied to those two puppets!

Ok, I'm confused. PRU, your answer to Anon @ 1:26 references the Public Works Service Center and I don't see any reference to that in Anon @ 1:26's posting...can you clarify please? Thanks!

The comment said "the new shelter site would be" -- since there's nothing new about the idea of a shelter at SPC or St. Mary's, the assumption was made the new site reference was to Mayor Howard's proposal for the shelter to be located at the Public Works Svc. Ctr.

Thanks. After reading the PubDogs I thought that might be the case. Appreciate the clarification!

I suppose there is a logical explanation for why the second portion of the committee of the whole minutes aren’t available for public review, though Ms. Davis’ memo indicates they have been prepared…but neither the city manager nor any of the aldermen seem able to explain it.

I also suppose there is a logical explanation for why the two agenda items dealing with the temporary overnight shelter ordinances are listed under the city manager’s report, instead of under the P&Z Commission report, where they should normally be.

Fubar AND snafu.

How could a PADS be put in the PW facility what with all the fumes making PW employees sick?

Carey reps the 6th ward.

How can that moron actually think he will get re-elected? The 75 vigil attendees actually from PR may vote for Frimark, but that leaves at least about 37k other votes by my tally.

What a side show - here!
Can't wait for the PADS
issue to come to a stop.

But should it pass...get ready
and lock your cars, doors and keep
the kids safe!

Really..........

You are right. Thank you for the correction. We made a very careless error.

I was brought up in a manner of, if you wanted something, you earned it. I have no issue with helping others. The issue I have is that people think they deserve something because this is America. Our forefathers came to this country and worked hard for a better life for their family. This freebie sh*% because we deserve it has to come to an end. I work hard to better my family and pay my taxes on time the way America is suppose to work. If I hit hard times, I do what I have too to make ends meet. Cut back my spending, work multiple jobs, flip burgers if I have to. Imagine if our forefathers came to this country and just expected Uncle Sam to flip the bill. The good ole USA would be a 4th world country. The more we give, the more they take. Let's open a PADS center, hang the blue light, and watch all the "woo to me" come to stay. What are people thinking???

I hear the meeting went past 12:30 and frimark brought out his own private contract he drew up to sign with pads, completely negating the 2.5 hour discussion and dumbfounding the aldermen and audience. What is going on here? Is he that crazy? Frimark couldn't even make a statement w/o looking at his attorney, it was like he was behaving as a crimininal. Then he yanks out his own personal contract for pads? This is crazy, someone should write a book about it.

ENOUGH already!
The city council is wasting so much time on this issue. MAKE A DECISION AND MOVE ON ALREADY.
Of course, we know Howie just loves the drama. Perhaps he creates it?
How about we move forward and take care of the issues of the city?
The roads are a mess (still!) and we are moving into winter. There has been a SINK HOLE in the parking lot of the Dee Rd train station for FOUR MONTHS. They put a warning sign over it, and there it sits. The hole is getting larger and larger. Stuff like that should be taken care of.
Of course, they probably couldn't have done it because they didn't have the trucks??? Such b.s.
