first debate tonight at City Hall hosted by League of Women Voters. Since they will not be televised, show up and be present! Be a PART of your city, don't continue to assume everything will be taken care of by elected officials.

I have noticed that Mrs. Henneman has decided to ally herself with Howard. I would like to express my complete displeasure with Mrs. Henneman as she has chosen to attach her name as if to imply that they are running on a "ticket" to further the Mayors issue on what can only be discribed as the most divisive issue this town has ever seen.

Mrs Henneman is running again for city clerk, uncontesded, and needs only her own vote to win. I will not be casting my vote for Mrs. Henneman as a show of complete displeasure for her actions. I encourage those who will not be supporting Mayor Frimark to do the same.

Anonymous said...

you should mention that to her at the League of Women Voters debate tonight. She's one of the "League Ladies."

Funny, I thought I saw that same fish floating down Cumberland Lake - last rain!!

Oh my.........

Ms. Henneman has decided that she and only she will decide what goes into the council meeting minutes. Apparently, she "doesn't like to make people look bad," which is why the minutes run short.

I am hoping her attitude will be amended under the new administration.

Thank you for allowing me this time to just review some of the key talking points that have recently been posted in our local papers.

- Homeless
- Campaign team
- Anti shelter
- Successful business man
- Hard working council member
- The only viable choice
- Airport noise
- Standing down

These key points all should be addressed and as an official tax paying resident of this fair city and I would like to respond:

- I have never heard anyone talk down against anyone helping those homless people.I believe its a twisted response by some who don't have kids attending SP school.

- The campaign team(s) on both sides I am sure believe in their candidate and it shows. As for all of us being "anti" social, housing, pads or airport noise..
all appears to be banter at its best.

- You call Howard Frimark a hard working city council member when he served, you call Howard Frimark
a successful businessman, and you include him as a viable choice.

Let's set it all straight - Mayor Frimark is for himself.

I'm sure those families voicing there opinions believe in what they say.

But here's the problem:

Frimark believe's his own disinformation - and that is the problem.

He has raised out taxes, water, sewer and ambulance fees each year since coming into office.

He believe's in taking from the TIF district funds and giving support the general funds.

His continued approach to all of these issues is " its not my fault and don't blame me".

Finally the key word - leadership was also used in one of the statements.

Leadership does not mean passing the buck!

Leadership does not mean leading from the rear !

Leadership does not mean to defend a poor position as someone stated
each and everytime he takes that chair.

You Mayor Frimark work for the people and you have been a fake and a fraud and need to step down.

Give the people the opportunity to allow for a new leader.

Give us all the opportunity to breath a breath of fresh air.

Thank you.

If this Mrs. Henneman is so terrible why is she running unopposed?

bulletin from the first of ?? debates...Frimark keeps referring to the Stimulus Program as the "Stimulation" Program. Oh, the giggles!
the pre-debate (opening act) was done by Alderman Wsol and the ever-rockin Joe Egan about the referenda on the ballot about funding for the police station. As someone who worked to get signatures, I was very very proud that we were so well represented by Mr. Egan.
to those who were there--how many think the first question about Bailey's was a "plant"? Yes, I agree too.

Anonymous said...

So what's in it for Egan. I've been told this guy has his own agenda going. And frankly, I'm not buying the for the good of the town answer.

Anonymous said...

Many of us jumped in to help Egan and Yes, we believe that it is for the good of the town!

Many of us have jumped in to help Dave Schmidt and again, the gain is it will be good for our town.

I was unable to attend the debate last night - child care issues. Plant or no plant, can you please share what was the answer given about Bailey's.

Thanks.

here you go...not exact words---
Question: What could have been done to keep Bailey's in Park Ridge?

Schmidt: In any economy, especially this one, when an organization like 5/3 comes in and makes you a great offer, you need to take it. The owners of Bailey's looked at other locations, but eventually decided to get out of the business altogether.

Frimark: Funny, I just met with *name of Bailey's owner* today and we discussed many possible locations to open a new Bailey's including the old Hollywood video location. There is a definite possibility that Bailey's will re-open in Park Ridge at a different location. We don't need to limit the number of banks in our town.

feel free to add what I've missed.

Anonymous said...

who were the "LeagueLadies" in the back of the room that would cluck when Schmidt criticized Frimark?

Anonymous said...

Well that is interesting. Based on the accusations I have read on the blogs I would have expected some controversy.

Jack must be very disappointed.

Anonymous said...

accusations?
truth...sometimes that is painful for people to adjust to.

Anonymous said...

Regarding Baileys...who actually BELIEVES what Frimark said? Sorry, that man could tell me it's raining outside and I'd have to go to the window and look for myself. No one should believe a word that man says without proof that's been thoroughly vetted.

Anonymous said...

Frimark will always tell you just enough to make you think he's actually doing something when, in fact, he's doing nothing. For him to say he's talking to Bailey's owner about another location is smoke up the chimney.

The only time that Frimark's doing anything that could result in something actually happening is when he's saying nothing, like when he was negotiating for various police station sites, or talking to Norwood Builders about extra units at Executive Plaza.

Anonymous said...

I can tell you exactly "what's in it for Egan." It is time the taxpayers of this town have a vote in how their money is being spent. I watched this current administration attempt to push through a $28.5 million expenditure ($16.5 million in capital costs plus $12 million in interest plus additional operating costs).

I attended many meetings, read everything I could find on the new police station and toured the current facility. I was not sold on the idea the City "needs" to expand from 9000 sq. ft. to 37,000 sq. ft. The police do need some improved facilities but the true needs (and not wants) can be built for a fraction of what the consultants hired to build police stations say the City "needs."

I believe the citizens should have a say in an expenditure that is over 1/2 the entire annual budget for the City.

Let democracy work and if a majority of the taxpayers want to spend $28.5 million on a new police station, so be it. If not, the City Council needs to know how the majority feel on this issue. The current City Council had no interest (except for Alderman Schmidt) in this being on the ballot until the citizens gathered enough signatures.

The above explains what's in it for me and explains why I was lifted from my couch to see to it that the citizens could have a vote on this very important issue. This could never have been accomplished without the hard work and dedication of over 70 volunteers in the dead of winter.

I can only imagine who told you I had "my own agenda going" based on the all the shenanigans that went on with the citizens' petition. Feel free to contact me to discuss this further at jjegan1@aol.com.

Mr. Egan

Anonymous said...

on another note...I called Mr. Claypool at Maine South and asked him if he and Coach Inserra endorsed Frimark because they appeared in his campaign flyer that recently came in the mail.

He said no, he does not endorse Frimark. That was a photo that was taken at City Council when the Maine South football team won the championship.
Again, like someone earlier said...Frimark only tells half the truth.

Anonymous said...

I agree with the poster that Joe Egan has an agenda. It's sooo obvious.
His agenda is to bring forward the truth and chaos about what is going on in city government. And most of all, he wants to make Park Ridge a better place to live.
that's a fine agenda for me.

Anonymous said...

Until I woke up and got off my couch, like Mr. Egan, I thought our city officials and staff served the interests of the citizens. But the current administration operates like feudal lords with authority over the Park Ridge serfdom. There are too many parallels to 18th century Eastern Europe and we need a change.

Anonymous said...

something that Allegretti said at City Council a few months ago really stuck with me...that they didn't need to ASK the citizens what they thought about the referendum because they elected them (well, not ALL of them!) and they (citizens) should trust in the elected officials to make the right decision.
crickets were heard after that one!

Anonymous said...

So I guess that photo taken with Howie and Anna Nicole Smith should be tossed out too!

Anonymous said...

Joe Egan should be considered a
"hero" for the taxpayers and voters of Park Ridge - someone who saw the waste and stupidity of the Frimark Administration and took up Ald. Schmidt's banner after Frimark and his stooges rejected Schmidt's attempt to put the police station on the ballot.

Thank you, Mr. Egan. And I'll be voting "no/no" on both police station referendums.

Anonymous said...

I'll also vote No/No.

Looking forward to a debate report from all the major media.

The funniest "reporting" on debates so far was the item in this week's Journal & Topics that quoted Frimark as saying Schmidt was trying to block debates in the city council chambers out of some allegiance to CURBB. Whaaaaat? Thankfully they also published Schmidt's response. Not sure what this reporting accomplished other than to put out in full public view the kind of made-up mendacity Howard usually spews in private.

Is there something wrong with honesty, transparency, integrity....folks, wake up and get involved...one way or another...this is your town not city council or Mayor Frimarks. He was so unprofessional and rude (again)...even the moderator was put off and couldn't believe what was going on. What a show but I am very glad I went!! Just confirms to me that I am on the right side. Dave Schmidt for Mayor and thank you Joe Egan...you are both for the ppl and for this city. I will vote no/no...not because I do not want a new police station but because the city cannot afford it right now. Simple math.

Its a sad day for the citizens here when we have a Mayor that will stand up and give false testimony.

His record is " zero " in my book.

And I will vote No/NO as well.

2. only a control freak would have to work 24/7
3. if you allow the City Manager to do his job, you wouldn't have to work 24/7
4. he's lying. he doesn't work for this city 24/7. He works for himself and those who line his pockets 24/7.

Anonymous said...

I'm a newcomer to this site, and it appears you people all know each other and kinda have one shared point of view. I'll be voting for Dave Schmidt, but let's get real here! Everyone has their own agenda, and as far as I can tell there are no real heroes around here. This mayor sucks, but where were the alderman (Schmidt included) while he's been doing a half a** suck job? And I guess I don't know what kid Frimark made a comment about, but apparently you all do, and apparently it's the same kid arrested at Maine South. So it seems maybe the outrage really has something to do with the parent(s) of the kid more than the kid. On that note, I'll say there is a very outspoken devoted supporter/volunteer of Dave Schmidt's who has driven people away from Schmidt. This person seems to show up at every school function, room parent opportunity and club for her children. But her kids are reported to be horrendous bullies and notorious classroom disputers, all with her devoted support. So come on step it down a notch already.

Anonymous said...

anon 2:49:

I agree with the first part of your post. In terms of the kid(s), and that includes the one referenced earlier this week as well as your reference today, I wish people would just live kids out of this. Why is it necessary to bring in crap that has nothing to do with an educated choice and is rarely anything but hearsay?

I have seen people post comments about Frimark and his family life and kids as well so I guess people seem to think it is appropriate on both sides. I think it is just noise.

Anonymous said...

anon 3:05
I agree, kids s/b left out of it. My point was only that sometimes kids are a true reflection of the the parent, and the same people spewing outrage are the outrageous ones themselves.

Anonymous said...

Could we please talk about real issues? Not people's kids or outrageous personalities.

I am a frequent visitor to both Alderman Dave and Mayor Frimark elections websites. I thank the PRU for making the links.

There are a few weeks left before the election and Mayor Frimark is still surveying residents about issues? I have not seen one position statement from him about any of the issues he is still surveying residents.

I don't agree with all the positions Alderman Dave has listed for the issues he talks about on his website but I appreciate that he doesn't avoid the topics with a survey either.

At the debate the other night Mayor Frimark said he's got a plan for flooding and would tell us in the future. Huh? Why not tell us at a debate where the candidates are supposed to talk about their plans and visions for us? I suspect Mayor Frimark doesn't have a plan. He is just talking about the constant flooding and making more of the same promises he made four years ago but has done nothing about.

Alderman Dave's statements on O'Hare were pretty lame too. It sure sounded to me as if he doesn't have any plan for addressing the airport problem either.

I am finding myself in the same position I usually find myself before elections. I will be choosing between the lesser of two evils. So far the lesser evil is looking like Alderman Dave. That isn't saying much, but at least Alderman Dave won't be pocketing any kind of Mayor's salary if elected. That's something.

Anonymous said...

It really isn't about the salary, it's about the position and power that goes along with. Who are we kidding? I think it's sad we have only the 2 choices. Both these guys have been in a position to make changes in PR and both have failed. It would be different if instead of pointing out the failings of Frimark, Schmidt could also point to some instances where he tried to intervene and make a difference (besides the Pads thing, which really just has people split anyway).

Anonymous said...

Yes, leave the kids out of it.

Anonymous said...

As a Park Ridge resident and taxpayer I am very concerned about the story going around today what Frimark told a table of PR residents last night at an Elks dinner. He stated that he has the full support AND votes of the fire department, police department and public works. And further, he stated that members of these departments are going door to door, soliciting votes for him.
This is outrageous. These workers whose salaries are paid for by us need to keep their mouths shut.
Swoboda, Sorenson and Zingheim--what are you THINKING?!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Anonymous at 432,

I might be arguing semantics...but I believe I disagree with your characterization that Alderman Dave is the "lesser of two evils"... I find there are a number of reasons to cast my vote FOR Alderman Dave...as opposed to simply NOT voting for Howard...

Por ejemplo...

Howard wants to spend millions on building a new police station five times bigger than the current police station. Alderman Dave does not. I will be voting FOR the candidate who has promised not to sink us deeper into debt for a longer term.

Howard wanted to use taxpayer money to buy a property for more money than the appraised value. Alderman Dave did not. I will be voting FOR the candidate who thought enough of the taxpayers to protect them from Howard's secret dealings.

Howard cast the tie-breaking vote to give one of his pals and very generous campaign contributors a $400K "gift" along with $2Million in "tax incentives". Alderman Dave did not. I will be voting FOR the candidate who believes creating a "pro-business environment" means stream-lining city processes, not giving away taxpayer money.

...maybe other folks see and measure those differences by way of "levels of evil".

I don't.

So, what's with the "Alderman Dave" tag, is that like "Officer Friendly"?

Today was a glorious day to be outside and reconnect with neighbors that we have not caught up with over this long, cold, and noisy winter.

Unfortunately, we found out from not one, not TWO, but THREE, households on our block that they had (a) been bullied into putting up Frimark signs, and/or (b) felt their jobs would be threatened if they put up Schmidt signs.

Nice to know that our current mayor somehow manages to be not only an ineffectual boob, but a bully and an extortionist as well.

Anonymous said...

Forget Mayor Daley, what we need is a Mayor Tony Arredia. He made sure his residents would be well insulated from the filth and crime of a casino and dropped it on Park Ridge. Meanwhile, we worry that Uncle Dan's will have too many TVs and lights will disturb a handful of people on a handful of nights at Maine South. Park Ridge is about to become the gateway to the Casino, and worse yet, the backed-up toilet for the crap that spills out.

Anonymous said...

Stay classy, Park Ridge.

I agree.

We have become the crapper for Daley.

The O'Hare Expansion, the low emissions from the jest exhaust, the strong potential of cancer causing agents to include the noise levels.

As Howard stated - I have been a leader here.

Sure Howard a leader for all the people.....

But look at the brightside...
We could have 4 more years...

Its time to put the budget axe down now Howie!

Your spending spree has costs this community - dearly mister 24/7.

Do we erect a statute in front of 505 for you...?

Can we get a deal on the concrete..

A little lesson in Howardeese.... full support from.... actually means 2 or 3. Complete backing....really means I've made some promises and in return they'll say they are backing me. I have a plan and I'll share it with you later...means I have no plan and I'm buying some time to gather input so I can tell you what I think you want to hear... whether it's true or not.

I could go on but I think you get the gist. It ain't always the way he'd like you to believe.

Anonymous said...

These are REAL issues! POLLUTION, a severe decline in lifestyle and PROPERTY VALUE, FLOODING streets and homes, CASINO crime and spillover. It seems people worry about non-issues. A persons desire to help the homeless turns into a personal attack on her hair style!Another person is hailed as a hero because he collected signatures against a badly need police station, that doesn't have a chance in hell in being built anyway! Seems the priorities are really screwed up. And the bottom line is we don't have leadership.

Anonymous said...

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that many Frimark signs are in front of empty houses?

Anonymous said...

Bean,

I'm the Anonymous 432 you posted to.

I guess your semantics is my glass half empty. Your points are well made and I understand your preferring your view. I also thank you for sticking to real issues. I will just say I still see the glass half empty on many of the issues. Maybe that is a nicer way of putting it than talking about lesser evils.

I also will say that I feel maybe I am being a little unfair to Schmidt in saying the glass is half empty when he's been talking about the issues, because I am comparing him to Frimark who I notice put up talking points just today but he doesn't say much of anything.

Anon@2:03 --

Thanks for the heads up. We hadn't bothered to take a look recently.

We see Mayor Howard and his web master are paying attention to the comments on this blog and responding -- even if that response is more idiocy.

Mayor Howard's first item "Q & A" item says in part --

" -- It is important to remember that the state controls the spending of the stimulus money, and at this point has made no commitment to using those funds for local flood relief. If we are to spend more on flood relief and we accept that the state will not fund these projects, it may not be possible to do with out a tax hike or cutting some city programs and services. I am confident that the council will come to a decision that will balance all of these factors."

That bit of blurb serves as still more evidence of what the PRU Crew has long known -- Mayor Howard doesn't pay attention.

For those interested in knowing about stimulation package funding relating to local flooding issues, you can read an article in the Journal & Topics http://www.journal-topics.com/dp/09/dp090313.5.html

The Journal article notes --

"But right behind that will be $8 million for Des Plaines flood control. The money will go to a variety of projects aimed at reducing flood damage, including the Upper Des Plaines River Watershed project.

A separate funding of $478,000 will go the Des Plaines River Flood Damage Reduction Study, Phase II, in Lake County. That includes hydrology, hydraulic studies and formulation for the remaining tributaries and main Des Plaines River."

Mike:

Frimark still plans for an under or over pass at Cumberland??? What exactly does that mean? They could not even get money for a study. There is no money. There has been zero discussion since it was pulled.

It was a beautiful day for a walk and I hope you enjoyed yours down by the railroad tracks but the Cumberland Ave. deal is dead.

ParkRidgeUnderground said...

Your comment is stated with a remarkable air of authority.

Anonymous said...

PRU:

Do you disagree with what I said? Maybe I missed something but we all agree it is a stupid idea. I do not care if the city had a 100M surplus (which we don't). It would still be stupid. Frimark couldn't even get the money for a study after misrepresenting the level of support from citizens. It is no freakin' where near "shovel ready". There are no "plans" for it. There has been zero discussion about it. Even rabid Schmidt supports have not thrown it out there as risk.

So Mike says he still plans to do it. I ask him, and I guess you as well, what does that mean.

I am far from an authority on anything to do with PR government. On virtually every city issue you know more then me. All I was doing is looking at the facts as I know them.

We can't agree or disagree with what you so authoritatively stated. We have no way of knowing all the conversations Mayor Howard engages in -- we assume we only hear, and hear of, a fraction of them.

How do you know there has been zero discussion about it?

Given Mayor Howard's rather parsed talking point on the subject of Cumberland, we may agree that MIKE overstated Mayor Howard's plans for Cumberland. But we don't feel his speculation is without merit.

Did you enjoy the last Mayor Howard quote in the report as much as the Crew did?

Give us an M
Give us an I
Give us a C
Give us an R
Give us an O
Give us a 'manage'

-- “My opponent gets on the train every morning and leaves,” Frimark said. “I’m here, conducting city business. And he is not.”

Let's see now, Mayor Howard says he's here conducting city business --

-- $3M in red ink so far.

-- Another near $2M in projected red ink for next year alone.

-- Several months late and several dollars short on the new O'Hare runway.

-- Several months late and several opportunities lost on the proposed Des Plaines Casino.

-- Decreasing infrastructure maintenance funding.

-- Interference with citizen efforts to participate in the democratic process.

-- Requests for federal dollars that are long on new building and extremely short on public works infrastructure projects.

-- Ignorance of stimulation package funding for flooding controls.

-- Trying to assist publicly funded homeless shelter businesses avoid public scrutiny.

-- Making sure two of his biggest campaign contributors receive, respectively, zoning variances for increased density beyond recently increased density allowances, and gifts of tax payer dollars.

-- Continual recusal from liquor board commission business because of economic ties to local businesses seeking licenses.

-- Allowing public input at council meetings to be more limited and on occasion not allowing public comment at all.

-- Trying to hold public meetings at his private country club in violation of the Illinois Open Meetings Act.

-- Using a city hall office facility for political purposes.

Anyone interested in taking up a collection to buy Mayor Howard a Metra Pass?

"Jack must be very disappointed."
No I am really glad that the soon-to-be-former mayor keeps acting like he runs a communist country. Howie always seems to pull another fast one out of his ass when he sees a question coming his way. His answer was really a statement. Much like a communist party would declare itself "the people's democratic party" and then set out to completely disinform the "people" and confuse the issues with random, fabricated tales of their hard work on behalf of "the people". You can almost see Howie sitting there with his big cuban cigar, puffing away while wheeling and dealing on behalf of the uneducated masses he claims to serve. The truth is that Howie doesn't give a rat's ass where (or if) Bailey's comes back to Park Ridge. He has already cleared the way for his buds at
"5/3 of a bank" to come to town. and he'll proably just push that Cumberland extension right through to make sure they have a nice flow of thru-traffic to their drive-thru windows too. Watch and learn y'all. This is how they do it in the big time. PS: Mrs. Henneman is running unopposed because no one wants her lapdog job. But we really SHOULD insist that she get the boot along with Howie so that the new mayor won't have indians in his fort. Anonymous (whichever one you are) can feel free to fire away now... I'm done.

My opponent gets on a train and leaves everyday, I'm here taking care of city business.

Translation.. I'm here wheeling and dealing and sticking my big fat nose in almost everything except city business.

Again I ask do I need to continue or can you fill in the rest on your own?!!!!

Frimark shouldn't be near the Metra crossing since he has been seen crossing while the gates are down (translation: "the rules arent for me).
It speaks volumes that he requested huge funds for a police station and little for flood control from the "stimulation" package. Flood control & sewers are a PRIORITY and a necessity; a new police station is not.

I am truly hoping all are kidding about the Cumberland thing. What is the purpose? No one has ever responded about that. Is there an emergency shortcut needed to the Hinckley baseball fields?

Under raising revenue:

"aggressive promotion of the Taste of Park Ridge to bring more patrons to the businesses in Park Ridge, corporate sponsorship for Taste of Park Ridge events and festivities" - how is the Taste of Park Ridge going to raise revenue for Park Ridge? The pitance of sales tax? I doubt that any phantom increase in sales tax off-sets the time and money spent by the city in the public works hours spent setting up the event and the extra police patrols during. From a dollars stand-point, the TOPR is a loser for the City. It is done for public relations. The TOPR committee donates some money for a scholarship, but it only turns a profit because the City "donates" its services.

Nice try Howard . . . I can't wait to see the phantom $0.03 come off my tax bill.
