City Council 11-15-2010 Video!

For our faithful PRU readers who've got a couple hours to kill.

The PRU Crew believes the Mayor's pre-ramble, before his remarks about his veto of the amended and then suspended facade improvement program, was a disclosure of some kind. We get the impression the Mayor found the matter pesky. However, we were pleased to hear the Mayor treat the veto subject as he did, though we are wondering why the Mayor chose not to issue his traditional email blast to supporters explaining his reasons for exercising his veto authority. We hope the City Council will choose to moooooves forward accordingly -- allow for the completion of the last remaining facade reimbursement agreement and reject any further applications, then fully suspend the program. We also hope that should any future Council choose to reinstate the program, they also demand a financial accounting to support the claims on which the program is predicated.

As for the discussion of the PROAC recommendations to retain the Taber Law Group for consulting on fighting O'Hare expansion, the PRU Crew found Commission Chairman Sue Perschke's offerings very entertaining. Where the former chairman had nearly perfected the damsel in distress approach, we find Ms. Perschke's baffle them with bullshit approach rather refreshing!

Two PRUdos are due!

The first goes out to City Manager Jim Hock for his ~~THUD!!!~~HOLY WOW!!!~~ inducing comments opposing a request, by Uptown developer PRC Partners, to grant a zoning text amendment and special use to again allow the developer to lease space to a non-retail, non-sales tax generating business. Mid-America Real Estate Group, the partner in the PRC Partnership which is responsible for retail leasing, may want to read their own rather up-lifting Retail Review – Fall 2010 Newsletter, then study their own 2010 Retailer Demand Study, and get to work.

Our second PRUdo of the day goes to resident Ms. Pat Livensparger for so clearly pointing out that an appeals process of any kind, in this instance the Tree Preservation on Private Property ordinance, must include criteria on which an appeal may be based. Spot on, Ms. Livensparger!

Enjoy the show, people!

Howdy boys -- finding everything o.k.? No referring link, eh. We're honored.

"The common law is the will of Mankind issuing from the Life of the People."

That's very catchy. We like it.

LOL. Look out PRU! They have you under surveillance!

Talk about a waste of taxpayer funded resources.

The PRU Crew is personally about as exciting as watching paint dry.

But we don't really believe they are all that interested.

Didn't the Mayor say he would veto spending money for O'Hare?

Someone mentioned that as the Council went into closed session, Hock revealed that the topic was going to be Napleton's lawsuit against Park Ridge for rezoning his parking lot last year. Does anyone know any more than that? There's lots of activity going on there this week and signs are posted saying the abandoned dealership building is going to be demolished. Anyone...anyone...Bueller...?

Anon 2:11,

I thought that's what Mayor Dave said too. With this guy though maybe his word isn't what you think it is? The letter about the library in the paper today was disturbing. Mayor Dave is either screwing up the truth or not telling the truth? Either way it's pretty bad. Back when he was running he took stances I thought I understood what he was saying. I maybe was hearing what I wanted to hear? Mayor Dave isn't turning out to be the guy I thought I was voting for.

Anonymous @ 12:12,

...the letter from the Library Trustee might have been disturbing...

...but the article on employee parking issues was hilarious! ...which Uptown employees does Mayor DipSchmidt quote as objecting to walking to their cars after working late?

...the Houlihan's servers, of course! The kitchen closes by 11pm, but the bar closes at 1am on weekends...

I wonder which Houlihan's female employees Mayor DipSchmidt was referring to?

12:12 get in line

The line is getting longer as more people realize our mayor is a hypocrit.

He used the charity groups when he was campaigning and then he turned on them. He is still using the charity groups for political fodder when he talked about his veto of the facade program.

He denounced public funds for any private groups and then sent out an email encouraging private residents to seek public funds from fema.

He wants transparency and reimbursements from private groups but lends his name and picture to the polish arts festival without demanding transparency and reimbursements.

The line is getting longer as more people realize our mayor is a hypocrit.

We disagree with your assessment of the Mayor's actions regarding the facade improvement program and the charitable organizations he cited in his veto remarks.

However, your take on the Mayor's conduct in relation to the Polish Arts Festival, and others of his campaign contributors, is a matter with which we cannot offer disagreement.

Politics is full of hypocrits. Nothing new.

I voted against the airport referendum and I hope the mayor vetos the money for it.

The Mayor will probably veto the money for the airport. Issuing a veto is all he knows how to do so he will probably stick with what he knows.

If you all think the Mayor does some "interesting" things now, just wait until he gets a majority of Aldermen who will vote his way. I get the feeling there are some people in this town staying close "buddies" with the Mayor (perhaps even buying him a cocktail or two...three) waiting for that day to come.

The Mayor's close buddies include the Pub-dogs site owner, Americaneagle.com's CEO, and his campaign Treasurer.

For two reasons alone, the PRU Crew would be delighted beyond words if each of those buddies of the Mayor were elected to represent their respective wards.

Pubdog is a one trick pony!! My God!! It's the same thing over an over!!

Could they be worse than the gang in there now?

Anon 12:21,

It does get old but like you I still read it. If nothing else I get a good laugh some times.

Pru, you can't be serious!?!?

The last thing we need is a council full of the mayor's personal teabaggers.

ParkRidgeUnderground said...

Anon@3:35 --

Serious as a heart attack.

PRU:

As evidenced by many of my posts, I am not too bright. Can you pleasse expand on your breif comments about the possibility of the three that you mentioned being Aldermen? Why would that be a good thing?

ParkRidgeUnderground said...

Anon@3:56 --

Sometimes you overwork an issue, but we find you bright enough.

We did not say it would be a good thing. We said for two reasons alone, the PRU Crew would be delighted beyond words if each of those buddies of the Mayor were elected to represent their respective wards.

We prefer to leave it at that.

I happy for you to see the humor. The constant hatefulness makes me sick. I hardly read it.

Would you by any chance be one of the idiots who demanded the zoning change that lead to the lawsuit?

Anonymous said...

PRU, how can you say it wouldn't be a good thing for the town if the mayor's drinking buddies got elected but that you would be happy about it?

ParkRidgeUnderground said...

Anon@11:05 --

Because we feel they should be exposed to the light and be forced to put forth their own agendas.

And as painful as the process would be, sometimes going through the process is necessary.

Only two of the Mayor's drinking buddies are likely to make the effort -- if that's any comfort. We strongly suspect the owner of Americanealge.com does not have the fortitude to step up an run. But we admit, the comedic offerings from such a candidacy and-or representative would provide a wealth of material for blogging.

The biggest losers would be the Center of Concern, Maine Center for Mental Health, and Meals on Wheels. The PRU Crew would only mourn the losses for two of those efforts.

As for the other favorite target of the Mayor's drinking buddies, Taste of Park Ridge -- it would be interesting to watch how they would go about justifying their actions in attempting to pave the way for one of the Mayor's drinking buddies, who may or may not still be convinced that running the Taste would put more than $100,000 in his pocket for what he's characterized as "3 days worth of work."

Politics is just so much fun, isn't it?

Anonymous said...

PRU, I understand what you are saying. I have to disagree with you though. It's not worth it to me to have the mayor's drinking buddies on the council.

ParkRidgeUnderground said...

Anon@5:00 --

Exactly which part of the relationship do you object to, the buddy part or the drinking part?

Are you aware of how many adults in this town consume adult beverages?

The buddy aspects and potential policy outcomes are what should concern you -- not how often the Mayor bellies up to the bar with his friends.

PRU, I don't have a problem with people drinking alcohol. I get concerned when people over drink alcohol. Earlier you said "it would be interesting to watch how they would go about justifying their actions in attempting to pave the way for one of the Mayor's drinking buddies, who may or may not still be convinced that running the Taste would put more than $100,000 in his pocket for what he's characterized as "3 days worth of work." That is also something I have a problem with. Are you saying you dont because it would be interesting?

To address the last portion of your comment -- no. What we are saying is those who have a desire to manage a City event, any event, should suggest doing so out in the open and should not be attempting to make the Mayor their mouth piece, or use other vehicles to carry their water.

As for the Mayor -- he should remember his campaign promises to the voters.
