PRU Pot Luck!

There's enough room in the PRU kitchen for everyone.

Again, we invite PRU readers to tell each other what's on their minds.

The Crew would love to hear what impressions were left with residents who attended either the St. Mary's PADS information meeting or the Planning & Zoning Commission, or both last evening. We think a fresh, non-Crew perspective and report of those meetings may have an interesting flavor.

Finally, a not-quite-confidential note to our early morning commenter -- rock on!

The St. Mary's PADS meeting was a joke. They must think the neighbors are dumb.

The Planning and Zoning meeting was much better. I felt like we were heard.

Are people being shy or strategic here? I was hoping to learn more here because I couldn't make the meetings last night. Anybody?

I hope to my God that Howard and his Giveaway Gang will be removed next election cycle. But beware the sheer arrogance and irresponsible nature of the monkey business to be conducted at city hall between now and "ejection day." Tell your friends and neighbors about these idiots and don't let up.

Anon@12:56,

We feel it must be more strategy than shrinking violet syndrome. The Crew's general feeling is that people should feel free to speak up and out -- but because we understand that the St. Mary's neighbors and others are running their own effort and have the most to lose, we decided to respect their approach and allow those in attendance at both the meetings to put out for public consumption as much or as little as they prefer.

Do keep in mind, those promoting the PADS shelter are reading here every day, as well as rereading past threads.

I'm not shy and and I don't give a d*mn about strategy. But I can't say I cared for the smugness of the PADS people and their supporters last night.

Whether it's moral superiority or the belief that a PADS at St. Mary's is a done deal, they sure looked and acted as self-satisfied as if they had Jack Nicholson seats at a Lakers game.

Have our mayor and a majority of our aldermen already given PADS and the ministers a behind-the-scenes blessing?

There should be truth in advertising! They shouldn't call themselves "Journeys from PADS to Hope"...

They should have to call themselves "Journeys from PADS shelter to PADS shelter to PADS shelter to PADS shelter"...

FRED...I feel like that whenever they have these "hearings" or meetings or whatever they call them. It feels like the decisions on zoning, or other issues are already decided.
They don't get it. We DO NOT want the PADS shelter in P.R. I will lead the protesters out in front of St. Mary's if that is what it takes.
Frimark: THE ANSWER IS NO!!!!!!

The stewing chicken in disguise is perfect for the PRU. Nothing but chickens hiding behind an anonymous blog and sqwauking.

No chickens here.
you're probably one of the "lurkers"...who doesn't know how to spell.

isn't the PADS at St. Mary's a done deal? I was under the impression that it is going forward no matter what the neighbors think.

Here is a question going way back...what happened to the proposed fee to be charged to developers/contractors on new construction which was to help offset the cost of street repair?
Did this ever pass?
As I drive down our streets with all those new homes, I can't help but notice the wear/tear/holes left by the construction trucks.

Question on PADS...How much is PADS paying St. Mary's to have a homeless shelter? I can't believe that St. Mary's kicked out the pre-school (who I assume was paying rent)to take on a shelter for nothing!

Good recall, Anon@10:16.

1 -- That fee did pass the council, but was severely scaled back from what the city mgr. proposed. The tear down fee was proposed at $10,000 but the then council passed an increase of around $1000 or $1500. Something like that. Those funds weren't earmarked just for street repairs, but we could be wrong. The projected revenue from that increase didn't materialize as hoped.

2 -- PADS isn't paying anything to St. Mary's; the space is being donated. We don't know about any of the financial arrangements St. Mary's may have had with Christie's.

The preaching at St. Mary's meeting was full of assurances that only minor nuisances would occur with a PADS shelter.

"A 26-year-old homeless man entered an Arlington Heights house to sexually assault a women, but instead stole a car because a woman was not there, an assistant state's attorney said. Joseph Mbatchoum, whose last known address was a Palatine shelter, was ordered held on a $100,000 bond...." Daily Herald, Arlington Hgts, April 1, 2007

If that's what the PRMA calls a MINOR NUISANCE - I don't think we can trust them!
