A Recall Amendment?

As most of our regular readers know, we've discussed the issue of a recall vote for local elected officials before. It is a topic that remains of interest to many Park Ridge residents.

We first spotted a report on the recall issue over on the burbcops blog --

Verbal fireworks part of Capitol recall debate

And then again on the local news last night --

House approves putting recall option on November ballot

"If a recall ever went into effect, it would apply to all the elected constitutional officers and the state legislature, no one at any local level. It's a long shot in Illinois because of the political dynamics, but definitely an embarrassment to the governor."

The bill still has to go before the Illinois Senate for a vote, and if it passes there then Illinois voters will have their chance to vote on the measure next November.

We haven't done any research on this legislation to see if it forbids local governments, especially those operating under home rule, from having a recall ordinance on their books, but we're going to bet it doesn't.

If this goes through, The dunderhead alderman of the 5th ward is my first choice to test the new law!

See Todd? You are not the only one taking the heat for the unwanted PADS shelter. Your co-conspirator, the much-maligned Fifth Ward alderman, is taking even more than you. And justifiably so, I might add, since he is supposedly the representative of those people who have expressed in no uncertain terms that they do not want the shelter in their neighborhood.

Wrong, Anon 1:00. The honor of first dismissal has been reserved for the Fourth Ward Fri-Puppet.

do we have to get rid of them one at a time, or can we get a group recall?

I don't think this helps those of us in the five unrepresented wards - 2d, 3d, 4th, 5th and 6th. How much of Park Ridge will be left once the robber barons get through with us in three years?

I say they should all go....between Todd "Erkel" Stroger and these goofs in PR city hall, who can afford to keep them in office? They are taxing me right outta here.

Speaking of recall, do you think that the alderman have the courage to recall the Napleton give away and fix a $400,000 mistake?

I thought is was more like $2 million!

ms m.,

There was the $400,000 for the old Napleton property clean up before Napleton sold it to the Uptown developer, and there was also the $2,000,000 tax give away for Napleton staying in town. That was the deal Mayor Frimark negotiated.

I am hoping our Aldermen do have the courage to recall this deal.
