Slow down in this bad weather
and please keep the proper distance

Thank you.

To the people who live on Dee Road who like to blast the snow from your snowblower INTO TRAFFIC--please knock it off. You know who you are.
And Merry Christmas.

Anonymous said...

Yup, Ms.M, but its not just Dee Rd. I have seen it all over town and I agree that we could do without...

Even the "nice people" who stop the blast when you drive by arent helping by just continuing after youve passed. Shoveling/blowing snow into the street AT ALL is plain inconsiderate.

and Happy Ho Ho...

It's snow.....get over it!

Are you the jackass who lives on Dee Road? Merry Christmas to you and all the other jerks who push snow into the lanes of traffic and plow under the sidewalks.

Clean your sidewalk!!
Thank you.

PS Don't forget the free coffee
at M/fields this Saturday at 10am.

Its Howie's coming out !!

And after last night's
barn Burner of a town hall mtg -
better check to see if Howie
lost ten inches of his fantail!!

Wow...a lot of pissed off people
with these planes!

FAA was taking good notes too!

Anonymous said...

Last night's meeting felt very very defeating. As much as the FAA was taking notes, do you think they will stop flying over at 4am? or dropping jet fuel or "green gunk" (quote from Mayor of A.H.)? no, they won't. Very very very very sad.
It's like it happened while we weren't looking. Our elected officials are supposed to be watching for this stuff. Bach is allegedly our rep with the commission (which is funded by AIRLINES!). W T F????

And Howie was purely pathetic, muttering and stuttering.

Anonymous said...

Did you all like the little temper tantrum that Rosie threw?

Anonymous said...

No I am not the "jackass". But if snow brings you road rage then move your as% to Florida. We don't have enough to concern ourselves with we have to worry about a little snow being pushed into the street? Merry fricken Christmas to you too!!!

ParkRidgeUnderground said...

Anon@11:26 --

We stand corrected -- you're a different jackass!

Anonymous said...

Glad you in the Holiday mood. Name calling is for 2 year olds!

Anonymous said...

you ARE a jackass!
it's not "a little snow" being pushed into the street. It is people with snow blowers, blowing snow INTO TRAFFIC, into windshields, creating very serious blind driving.
Another clueless poster. Oh great.

Merry Christmas to YOU, PRU. May we all get a new mayor in the new year who cares about our community and not about his personal agenda.

Anonymous said...

Hear hear to the new Mayor!

However, I have yet to hear of someone in an accident due to a snowblower blowing snow. I have heard of many with the people who think thier vehicle is better than others and drive like it!

Merry Christmas to you too!

Anonymous said...

Anonymous @ 11:26,

I won't call you a "jackass" or anything else...but...

The person on Dee Rd. who uses his snowblower to clear his driveway is exceedingly obnoxous...he doesn't just "push..a little snow" into the street, which I don't believe anyone really minds... He literally blows it INTO and ONTO the windshields of passing cars...as I have personally experienced...and hitting the slick spot where he's blown the snow into the drivable lanes of traffic, then having your entire windshield fully covered, having to press the breaks, then click the wipers on and maintain control of your vehicle...well, it makes for an "interesting" experience...sort of an adrenaline rush, if you like that kind of thing...which I don't, and another reason I've never chosen to jump out of a plane in perfectly good condition...

It's an accident waiting to happen.

Anonymous said...

If this person has actually intentionally blown snow on your windshild while driving, call the police and file a charge. Been done before!

Anonymous said...

Anonymous @ 11:56,

Thank you for your concern and advice...by the way...what "charge" do you suggest I file a complaint under?

Anonymous said...

Frimark looked great on Fox News. Too bad he didn't stick his mug in front of the cameras - or pull his head out of his butt - 3 years ago when we might have had some meaningful input on this new runway.

How come they didn't show Rosie Mully getting the Miss Congeniality award?

Anonymous said...

Howard voted to get out of SOC right after he got elected 4th Ward alderman. Did he mention that last night?

Anonymous said...

I seem to rember reading something about "unnatural accumulations of snow" being the source of liabilty for damages in Illinios. I am sure if the snow you throw in the street causes an accident (especially after the city has already plowed the street) you could be held liable. I bet there is a lawyer out there somewhere who would be happy to make that argument.

Anonymous said...

Ok....people....easy!
What's next " T - Back hotdogs"

Anonymous said...

I'm so sick and tired of these politicians claiming that this airport thing is news to them. Gay boy Weitecha didn't play ball with the city and that's why the planes are flying over Park Ridge instead of Palatine and Mount Prospect. Howie was on the council then and he knew all about what was being proposed and just WHERE was Rosemary Mulligan then? Get rid of them all and IMHO there is no one who is running for mayor right now who is worthy of being our representative. They hear what they want to hear and not what we tell them. Then they go and give favors to their friends and just forget about the job they're supposed to be doing for the taxpayers. I would like to fire them all Now that I got that out of my system, I'd like to wish PRU and readers a wonderful holiday. Enjoy your families!

Anonymous said...

Anonymous @ 1:50,

What you are talking about is "after the fact"...in which case, I could be very tempted to skip the lawyer part in my "pursuit of justice"...

The man who lives on Dee Road, and creates this "annual event" as a "surprise treat" for drivers should simply stop being an obnoxious and thoughtless nincompoop...and I won't apologize for name-calling here, it seems appropriate somehow...

Have we become such a nanny-State- dependent population that we don't know not to create potential hazards and problems unless somebody gets "the law" after us?

Anonymous said...

The town hall meeting last night was a JOKE! I left feeling worse, and more worried, than when I arrived. Sure "they" took notes, but we'll only get some pat answers in a couple of weeks.

Rosemary's temper tantrum was disgusting!

Simply put, we're screwed!

Someone else was also blowing snow on cars this morning on Potter (just South of Maine East) and there is like a 15 foot parkway there. Why he felt it necessary to put it all the way in the street is anyone's guess. A few of the cars (including me) moved over to avoid it but I still got some on the passenger side.

I drove by Morningfield's this morning and saw some of "Frimark for Mayor" kickoff. The parking lot was busy. That’s probably why he had there on the Saturday before Christmas so he can say “We had hundred’s of people. The turnout was great. More than I expected.” Of course most of those people were there to pick up supplies for Christmas parties. I’m betting most people were saying “Why is this bozo doing this today? Now I’m going to be even longer getting my meat. What a tool.”

The best was the “Frimark for Mayor” signs stuck in the snow banks. They should move them to side streets and stick them in mounds of still unplowed snow piles.

MIKE said...

Anyone go to Morningfields today to see Howard?

Thought about going but didn't.

Looks like Monday's Finance & Budget meeting's been called off.

Probably so our mayor can watch ther Bears & Packers game.

Also here's someting off topic.

Remember a few years back Channel 11's restaurant review show Check Please had an all kids episode and 1 girl that was on was a PR resident?

Can't remember her name but she was mentioned in the paper and later showed her in the papers at home with a cake that had the show title on it.

From the Tribune:

Des Plaines gets last casino license

The Illinois Gaming Board today awarded the state's remaining casino license to Midwest Gaming LLC, which plans to build in suburban Des Plaines.

Midwest beat out competitors looking to locate in Rosemont or Waukegan with an upfront bid of $125 million and a promise of an additional $10 million for each of the next 30 years.

Midwest will pay $2.5 million in the next 10 business days, $50 million within 60 days of being found "suitable" by the Gaming Board and $72.5 million when it gets the license. All the money will go to the state.

Chairman Aaron Jaffe said he felt Midwest was the most reputable and generous in sharing revenues with depressed communities.

Jaffe and several other board members said they could not vote for Trilliant Gaming to open a casino in Rosemont because of past allegations that the village had mob ties.

Midwest was selected on a 3-1 vote, the other going to a company seeking to locate in Waukegan. Board member Eugene Winkler chose not to vote, saying none of the applicants were acceptable.

And what does Park Ridge get??

More traffic. More Drunk Drivers.

Merry Christmas!

Anonymous December 22, 2008 12:23 PM

I get the sarcasm about how some people might over-react to benign things like cars being moved off a car lot so that the snow can be cleaned off the lot.

But I think the sad part isn't that somebody might over-react, but that there's enough kinky stuff going on (like the city trying to give Napleton millions in environmental costs and sales tax sharing, or the city trying to buy his dealership for a new police station) to give rise to that kind of over-reaction.

The old line "just because you're paranoid doesn't mean we're not watching you" seems applicable here.

Anonymous said...

The casino is going to be at Devon/River Road. The person talking about drunk drivers is right. Get ready, PR Police...petty theft, breaking into cars and homes on that side of town will rise. I lived through it in another state.
Well, at least by the time it opens in 2010 we should have a new mayor (God willing!).

That does not mean I cannot chuckle at some of the "leaps" that occasionally take place on the blogs.

Hey, today's Advocate announces ORD-REST, the citizens group running around trying to do something about the new runway. Let Mrs. Zolt have her 15 minutes of fame - where has she been for all these years that new runway was being planned and built?

Yeah, the FAA will bend over backward to do whatever these people want.

What's our taxpayer-paid city goverment lead by Mayor Frimark doing? Nothing, I'm guessing.

Anonymous said...

What the hell is the propose of attacking the lady who is organizing it???????? Does it make you feel good?

Of course there is a huge amount of blame to go around - Mayor and all elected officials. Even the public, me included, missed the boat on this. I will admit that I was aware of the new runway but I was not aware of the real implications for my neighborhood and PR as a whole.

Maybe it is possible that all the geniuses on the blogs were right on top of it but if that is the case, I have seen no discussion about it in the 1 + year I have been coming to the blogs. Anon 11:44, did you post about what a huge issue it was?

Instead you scoff at a lady who is trying to do something about it (granted it is a long shot).

If you are looking for people who crave their 15 min of fame I would suggest you turn your attention to the elected officials with all the crap they spew to the press etc.

Speaking of wasting money...

Anybody wonder why the streets aren't in the greatest of snow-removal shape these days?

Used to be salt, plow, salt, plow, salt...

Now it's plow, plow, plow, then salt...

Salt is expensive...but so is the cost of equipment repairs...not to mention infrastructure damage...curbs, in this instance...

Yesiree...we're saving on the cost of salt...but spending it on over-time and mechanicals...

Fun fun fun!

Anonymous said...

what about the NEW TRUCKS we just "had to have"?

Anonymous said...

Sue them?? For what??

Pollution and noise impacts were addressed by the FAA in the environmental impact statement. SOC sued the FAA to get access to all the background documents for free (normally, when you ask for 500k documents from the government, you have to pay for the copies). If you did not read the EIS, or go to any of the presentations regarding the Ohare Modernization Plan, you willingly turned a blind eye to the change that was coming, the change that you are now up-in-arms about.

I read the EIS. I understood where the planes would fly and will fly in the future. I take personal accountabilty for knowing what is going on around me.

Granted, the shock of going from zero to 400 flights in one day is enough to cause this reaction and backlash. But once the EIS was approved, and SOC changed from trying to stop the modernization process to pushing for a far-away long-shot of an alternative airport in Peotone, the fight was over.

Organize. Vent. Spend money (yours, not the taxpayers). But in the end the most effective thing you can do is get used to the planes. They will not go away.

I read that Howard want the FAA to fund more noise monitors for Park Ridge. This is laughable. All it will do is document the noise and not stop the planes. His lack of leadership on this issue is unmatched. We don't need to waste money on monitors. He is once again a day late and a dollar short.

And as a preemptive strike, I am not bitter. I just call 'em as I see 'em.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

anon 1:36 PM:

Your post makes me curious. I have to admit that I do not notice any dramatic changes in how the snow removal is taking place this winter versus the 5 previous that I have lived in PR.

As always, it appears to be in order from very main roads (Touhy, Talcott, Cumberland etc.) down to semi-main roads (Belle Plaine, Prospect etc.) and finally to the side streets where I live. This does not bother me a bit.

The frequency of the trucks I see has not changed dramatically and I have seen them salting this winter as often as any other winter.

Of course I know about the cost of salt going up and the city has to manage this.

Is your post based on some fact or inside knowledge or is this just something else to complain about?

Anonymous said...

It would be easier for the plows to clear the streets if all of you who park your cars on the street like it was your driveway or garage would get them off the streets. They can send all the trucks out that they want but if cars clogg the side streets like this was the city of Chicago the snow plow drivers can only do a half a$$ job at best.

Anonymous said...

To me it is a matter of how you look at it. As I said before, I have no issues with the way they plow in PR.

It has been snowing pretty much all day today. At this moment (4:10 PM) it is snowing fairly hard and they say we could have 6 more inches over night. Guess what? My street is covered with snow. They have been by at least 5 times today but it just keeps snowing.

So what am I going to do. Be pissed of and consider this a lack of service and another example of the incompetence of the Frimark administration (of which god knows there are many). Or maybe understand that there are a hell of a lot of roads in PR and it is unreaslistic to expect my side street to be completely clean while the snow has not even stopped yet. Do we really want 500 plows - just park one at each corner!!

A few things to conclude. I can crive around at this moment in my rear wheel drive vehicle with no problems. The road is not a problem as long as people take the appropriate care for the weather conditions. I also agree with the previous poster about the parked cars. Finally, for me the far greater hazard is the residents (and there are many) who do not shovel their walks creating an ice rink as the snow gets packed down.

Bean - a citizen calls the cops and file a complaint, "my neighbor is an ass" is adequate, although I prefer "he's a walking violation of the laws of evolution" (I've tried "you're a civil servant, can you be a service to humanity and just shoot the prick and then we'll figure out something after the fact?" but that one is frowned upon). The cops will determine what the charge is, if any, e.g., obstructing a thoroughfare, etc. They are not interested in a bunch of Judge Wopner educated lawyer-wannabe calling to file cite law to them.

Anon December 23, 2008 1:57 PM you're got it right. Sue them? Who? The FAA? The airlines? For what? What remedy? Injunction - looking to stop the planes? Damages - are you ready for the "coming to the nuisance" defense?

Harwood Heights has had aircraft noise monitors for years, they are nothing but window dressing.....The planes still land and takeoff down Lawrence ave. You think Daley gives a toot about Park Ridge, he doesn't even care about his citizens....

MIKE said...

I think the only people you should blame are the airlines.

They have to keep up with those who are travelling by air and those comming and going fro O'Hare and Daley and the city has to expand the airports and built new runways.

As I said before get use to it or move.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Mike - the airlines
are the pistons that drive this engine called O'Hare.

Anonymous said...

The airlines did not design the new runway configuration. If you have not been reading the papers-air traffic is down and they plan to take more inventory out of the sky. The pilots do not like using the runway (the control tower decides which runway the planes use) as it takes 20 minutes to get to the gate after touchdown. So blame some one else-not the airlines. The fault lies squarely on Daley and those who lied or put out misinformation to get the OMP through with as little resistance as possible. Had PR's elected officials-they also are at fault for screwing us over-bothered to let us know about the flight pattern etc thos of us so negatively affectd would have spoken up much earlier.

And Mike-we will never get used to so stop blogging that here.

MIKE said...

DUH! I don't the airlines aren't responseable for the new runway!

And I question your argument a little bit.

I've seen air traffic on both the new runway and the one over the expressway and I don't know about the one south of there since I don't always look that direction and it's been overcast. But if all 3 are being used then maybe there's more traffic than you might realize.

Saturday morning……

The roads in Park Ridge are flooded yet again. Oh, that’s right there’s nothing you can you do with these hundred year rains (that come every six months). Park Ridge infrastructure is job #1, right Mayor?

Anonymous said...

Saturday afternoon:

The roads in my neighborhood are not flooded. My neighbor had a huge puddle in fromt of his house this morning. I did have to go across the street to chip away the ice and pull back leaves from his sewer drain. After doing that the water in front of his house was and remains gone.

I have also been running to various stores in the area including Niles, Skokie and Des Plaines. They have HUGE puddles as well. My neighbors backyard is a a freakin' pond - frozen ground and all that melted snow plus the rain. The water can't go anywhere. I have not driven buy Centenial Park yet but I bet it is a lake as well.

I agree that we need to have a long term plan to improve the sewer system. I was killed in the Sept floods and am spending about $8,000 to "floodproof" my house.

But for me at least, there is a requirement that I use my brain. My yard had probably 7+ inches of snow on it yesterday morning. I look out my window now and I see 75% grass. On top of that we had 1.5 inches of rain. Add to that the fact that the drains either get clogged with ice or leaves.

There are Flash Flood Warnings and River Flood Warnings in place until about 9:00PM tonight. Is it really reasonable for me to expect to not have standing water??
