Don't Quote Him On Anything He Says!

As we mentioned yesterday, a Park Ridge Herald-Advocate online update reported that Mayor Howard will attend his first meeting of the Illinois Gaming Board today. The Illinois Gaming Board's open session begins at 1 p.m. "in the fifth floor auditorium at the Michael A. Bilandic Building, 160 N. LaSalle St. in Chicago."

Readers are told that Mayor Howard will "tell members of the Illinois Gaming Board that the proposed Des Plaines casino will have a negative impact on his city."

In
our post from yesterday, we pointed out that what Mayor Howard is saying now sounds a lot different from Mayor Howard's original statement in the press --

But now the pro-business Mayor will tell the Illinois Gaming Board "the proposed casino site west of River Road and north of Devon Avenue will only aggravate traffic congestion in Park Ridge and could result in an increase in crime as well."

Jeez! Mayor Howard is sounding almost as if he's pro-resident! Almost.

But as we've all been told, don't quote Mayor Howard on anything he says...or doesn't say...or doesn't mean...

One PRU reader seems to envision Mayor Howard's address to the Illinois Gaming Board, set to begin a short two hours from now, may go something like this --

Submitted for our amusement by a talented PRU reader.

Bwaaahhhaaaaaaa...

You could put just about anything HOward says in those "bubbles"...and the flip-flop applies!

Hey, you've got Howard speaking out of only two sides of his mouth. That's a big improvement over his normal behavior, which usually reveals how a human mouth can have many sides.

Is the Gaming Board giving his a special appearance - reserved for those public officials who were asleep when all the real hearings went on?

and while Howie is downtown (did he really cross the tracks while the gates were down again at the train station?)...WGN Noon News flashed photos of "flooding and standing water in Park Ridge" during its weather forecast.
How nice.
He's probably going to say that there is not a flooding problem in PR!

Right, we do not have a flooding problem in Park Ridge, when its not raining!

He's speaking right now....the IGC is laughing right now. I hope someone tapes it.

and now they are saying "thank you Mr. Mayor. Have a nice trip back to Park Ridge."

I was there along with some other residents. It was a sad and embarassing moment for Park Ridge. The rest of the world will think we are some hick town with an idiot for a mayor. He butchered his prepared speech, and he asked the Board for something the Board already told him can't be done, ie. moving the casino or making Des Plaines give us money.

It was 100% percent grandstanding for the benefit of Jennifer Johnson who he is praying will put a positive spin on it.

Oh, and yes, someone did film it. There was a hilarious moment which I dearly hope will find its way onto the airwaves.

please excuse me if this is a stupid comment, but shouldn't he have been talking to these people BEFORE they made the decision?
Shouldn't he have BEEN there at the meetings?
Shouldn't he have been PAYING ATTENTION to the interests for the good of Park Ridge and not his own personal interests or those of his supporters?
and now we have this bumbling fumbling idiot speaking to them NOW? NOW??!!!!

Anon @ 2:58, your comment is not stupid, you just got here a little late. That's exactly what we've all been complaining about. Howie is only doing this now because so many residents are ticked off. He sees the results of the election already, and they are not good for him....

BTW, who is Jennifer Johnson? I take that's a reporter from the HA or the Journal?

Off subject, anyone read the letter in the Journal? C.U.R.R.B. responds to Mayor over forum. Seems the Mayors hands were in the interference pot.... AGAIN!!! Tsk Tsk Tsk.

I've seen the video of Howard trying to address the Gaming Board today - He's an embarrasment to the city of Park Ridge and a very bad actor. I'm sure the video will make it's way onto PRU.

I've seen it too. Priceless.

One of our friendly correspondents was kind enough to forward the link.

We've finally regained enough of our compusure from laughing to be able to discuss posting the video -- and we do intend to post it for tomorrow's PRU piece.

We just can't delay the opportunity to allow the voters of Park Ridge to see their current Mayor in action.

I just saw the video. America please, please understand this is not the typical person from Park Ridge.

This guy is a twit.

I can't wait,hurry up!

oh no...I consider Blagojevich the uncle/cousin who embarasses the family. what would we call howie? I feel like covering my eyes, not wanting to see this video. Yet, it's like I cannot turn away. Looking forward to the post and link tomorrow.

Yes Ms. Johnson is with the HA

And I don't think most people will look down on PR because of Frimark.

I would think most people have common sense to realize if a certain place and negative politicans it doesn't mean everyone from there is bad.

I just glad he didn't become mayor years earlier considering he's a 38 year resident.

I too have seen the video.
What an idiot. And his reaction to being videotaped is comical.
Get out and VOTE in April, Park Ridge.
It's time.

While I agree with the general sentiment related to the mayor, I would argue that there was really nothing PR could have done to persuade the IGB to put the casino somewhere else.

The decisions of a board appointed by Blago were made long before any hearings.

Anon@10:15 --

The assumption in the last portion of your statement is wrong, as it impunes the character and integrity of the IGB -- my personal experience of one of its members does not allow for what you have alluded to.

Anonymous said...

I completely disagree with the statement the IGC made it's decision prior to the hearings. In my professional life, I've crossed paths with the IGC, and they have always displayed a high level of integrity. Something it's clearly too late for Howie to learn.

PRU, you amaze me. The credibility of your opinions took a nose dive defending the IGB.

They schedule and run "public" meetings intended to meet the absolute minimum legal standard of the open meetings act and the Klaeren ruling.

Ultimately, our only leverage is to pursue a political solution or a legal challenge with Des Plaines.

Anon@2:57 --

Despite your non sequitur and lack of logical progression, our credibility remains.

How the IGB proceeds under the IOMA and Klaeren case law has nothing to do with the individual character of the IGB members.

Thanks for playing. Better luck next time.

PRU,

You are correct. I confused individual character with group credibility.

Character they may have, credibility they lack.
