COW Meeting Tonight!

By -- Gary Larson, The Far Side.com

Tonight's City Council COW agenda (.pdf) includes something for everyone! Despite the intention of using COW meetings as committee of the whole formats for 2-at-a-time committee meetings, we see that every City Council committee will have their moment in the spotlight tonight.

We urge PRU readers to stop in at City Hall beginning at 7:00 pm this evening, and spend some time with your COW representatives who will be spending their time spending your money!

Bring snacks and brace yourselves folks... this ought to be a loooooooooooong meeting.

And BTW... no smiling, smirking or waving of the arms!

Wish I could be there...

As someone who was instructed by Mayor Howard not to smile during a City Council meeting, I must say I hope a new day has dawned, and that Mayor Dave will let the sun shine in.

Smiles all around.

It's pretty sad that without hesitation the council as a whole approved $271,000.00 to the civic organizations even though there is already a 2 million dollar debt. One alderman and the mayor who were originally against this (because of the debt, not to take away from any particular group), decided to vote for it. Why is this, hold your ground gentlemen. This is not "business as usual" right now, sound familiar.

Do the residents really not know that the cuts that are still being discussed are your own police, fire, and public works personnel. This will only impact YOU, a resident of the beautiful PARK RIDGE. You may not think it will now, how ever, personnel cuts, means service cuts. Stand up for your public service personnel!

how lazy and uninterested Ald. Carey and Wsol looked during the COW. Most of the time Carey was fully reclined in his chair, staring at the ceiling. Wsol joined him after a while and was rocking back and forth in his chair so much, he practically knocked over the flags behind him.
PAY ATTENTION BOYS, this stuff is important!

Just to clarify, I believe the $271,000 is included in the debt, not on top of it.

they added approx $40k ON TOP of the budget last night. I guess when you are in debt, you wanna be REALLY in debt!

Whether the $271,000.00 was included or not, the city is still 2 million in the hole. Civic organizations are important, however, emergency and public services should come first.

I am not defending the 271K. The prior poster made it appear that they voted for this on top of the budget or that these were non budget items. I just wanted to clarify that point.

Nobody's gonna want these thankless no paying jobs if you people keep on busting their nuts on stupid crap like rocking in a chair.
