Summer ends this month.

Too bad.

Did anyone read the Journal article “Who else is out”? It’s an absolute stitch. Quotes from Bach “My business is going to keep me too busy to be an alderman, much less the mayor” and Allegretti “It just sucks up too much of my time”.

These two guys, along with the current Mayor, were such big supporters of cutting the City Council in half thereby getting rid of the one City Council who actually balanced the City budget. Then they through their own ineptitude launch the City into a budget crisis. Then they quit because it’s too hard.

Does anyone else feel a need to get the hell out of here?

So....what is better? Quitting becuase of family committments, or business committments, or being too busy.......or never running at all because of family committments, or business committments, or being too busy?

Think what Anon 4:52's saying it's something when someone such as a politician makes changes that are unpopular and then they choose to quit.

There maybe some truth to what they're saying since being an alderman or mayor for a suburban town isn't a full time job can it can be very difficult.

I have an old article from 1986 when Butler was mayor and the reporter asks him on how he handles his job and being the mayor?

He says, "With great difficulty."

And if you look at the photos of all the mayors next to the doors to the CC most of them where in for one term, which means a good deal of them probably felt one time around was enough.

MIKE,

The change to the number of Aldermen per ward was a "popular decision," as evidenced by the majority vote that approved the change...

...which doesn't mean it was an informed or intelligent change.

What seems to be at issue...and with which I agree...is the idea that the three boneheads mentioned were all fully and eagerly in support of cutting the clowncil to 1 alderman per ward even though there were plenty of people saying such a cut would hamper the clowncil and make the job harder, and most of all the city would have fewer sets of eyes watching the community pot...

...but support the cuts they did and thus booted out the clowncil members, the only clowncil, who managed to not only balance the budget but keep it in the black.

...and then all three of those boneheads were part of the reduced clowncil that has driven the city's deficit spending to new heights...creating serious financial problems... and they've drastidcally had to make cuts to both services and city staff which, like it or not, translates not-so-indirectly to more reduced services.

...and now two of those boneheads are actually saying the job takes too much time...they don't have the time to do the job...

It's offensive. They made the mess, so they should have the decency and the honor to stick around and clean up the mess they made...or at least give the voters the opportunity to tell them to take a hike.

...and in case anyone should ask/comment...many members of the last clowncil treated the cut the clowncil referendum as a referendum on the job they were doing and whether or not the community/voters approved. Clearly the comunity/voters did not...so most of those old clowncil members decided to give the voters exactly what they seemed to want...and exactly what HOward Frimark asked them for...total control by HOward and his hand-picked pack of lapdogs.

Welcome to getting what "you" asked for...good and hard.

Yeah you're right it was a popular dicision.

Wasn't thinking clearly.

Anyway, I always though it was odd it was odd that we had 2 alderman for eack ward but I certainly didn't vote for the reduction is aldermen becuase I had the feeling it would backfire.

The people wanted Howard for Mayor, and they got Mayor Howard. The people wanted Howard's seven-member Council, and they got that, too.

I wonder if Howard has anything else up his sleeve for us....

UUUUUUGGHH!!!!!!!

Please allow me the latitude to vent my frustrations over the City's "new" website.

I have been trying to research a particular matter of interest and have found it more than difficult to recover the documents from past meetings only to discover that agendas, minutes, video and memos are either in the wrong place or just flat out missing all together.

I am not completely confident having to rely on any one ow two persons memory of how certain (or) any issue has unfolded or who said what and when. I much rather have some IOMA required account of those events. IE minutes, agendas etc.

But guess what?!?? No can do-y!!!!!!

I don't think you have any right to complain about the website.....after all, it uses "White House" website technology!!!

Well M. Anderson if I can remember correcly, H. Frimark was the lesser or 2 evils if I'm not mistaken.

So unless you feel the other guy was better off and those, myself included were misleaded, then I think you need to think before you critisize people for voting for him.

MIKE --

As an academic exercise, in what ways and on what specific issues do you believe Howard Frimark was the lesser of the two evils?

M. Anderson said...

Mike-

Yes, the other guy was better. But in politics the better guy doesn't always win. Howard ran a very effective campaign in 2005.

Once Howard became Mayor and the people got a look at how he operated, they wised up and voted him out in 2009.

We've posed the question to both of you because ultimately there was little difference between the two when looking at their Council voting records.

Full-time Park Ridge resident.
Honest.
Being an elected official offered him no business advantage.
Smart.

MIKE said...

I can't remember exactly since that was 5 years ago.

I honsetly don't mean to be short with anyone here but just can't remmebr the exact details.

Anonymous said...

He was the lesser of two evils but you cannot remember why?????

MIKE said...

Do you remember every single thing that's happened in your lifetime?

ParkRidgeUnderground said...

Fair enough.

We believe there were three factors which placed Howard Frimark ahead of his opponent.

-- Michael Tinaglia's sanction by a judge. The matter was grossly misunderstood by the voters to Howard Frimark's advantage.

-- Michael Tinaglia was a lazy campaigner.

-- PRU.ADMIN realized Michael Tinaglia was likely to lose the election on the night of the CURRB debates when Howard Frimark, a transplant from Wisconsin as opposed to life-long Park Ridge resident Michael Tinaglia, looked out into the crowd and said he hoped this would be a "real home town election." The message was clear -- vote for me, I'm the Republican.

And the tendancy of voters to adhere to their knee-jerk, blindly partisan habits did not disappoint.

Members of the PRU Crew found the personal, private characters and conduct of each man vastly different from one to the other. It was unfortunate for Mr. Tinaglia that he was unable to project himself better.

However, as you noted M. Anderson, once the people of Park Ridge began paying attention and got a good long look at the man they had previously elected, and for whom there was little though vociferous Council opposition, they chose to attempt to correct the course.

The current Mayor is by no means close to an ideal of leadership and we find he too can be a blindly partisan buffoon. However, he is still a tremendous improvement over the former Mayor and we believe he was a better Alderman during his two years on the Council than either Howard Frimark or Michael Tinaglia, combined.

Did the White House intranet get hacked too?

Ryan should follow them out the door.

I can't be sure who is the worst. I'm glad two of the worst won't be back one way or another.

PRU?

Still on your weekend?

Chicago Mayor Daley just announced he won't run for reelection. Who will the Ohare fighters hate next? I also read today Daley wants to bond another billion for the Ohare build out. I sure am happy our Ohare fighters are ready to throw a whopping $650K into the battle.

Anon@1:36 --

In a manner of speaking. There is much catching up to be done. We're also very confident our faithful PRU readers know where information can be found without our directions.

Anon@2:27 --

And good riddance. We're wondering who Madigan will select to become Chicago's next Mayor. Or will Rahm find his way home.

Speaking of who will run- I got this forwarded from a friend who is on the Mayors email list.

For anyone who may be interested in running for Park Ridge City alderman, Park Board commissioner or Board of Education trustee, please be advised that the State of Illinois made a significant change to the law regarding nominating petitions. The time period for circulating petitions and submitting them to the Clerk is now much earlier.

Individuals interesting in running may begin circulating petitions on September 21. Petitions must be filed with the Clerk between December 13 and December 20. You may obtain more information from Cheryl Peterson, the Deputy City Clerk. Her direct line is (847) 318-5464.

Good luck to all who decide to run.
