We hope our faithful PRU readers are recovering from any post-election hangovers. However, for those who believe in the hair of the dog cure, we suggest giving the City Council some of your time and attention this evening.
What passes for our local representative government will be meeting tonight at City Hall, beginning at 7:30 PM.
The revised agenda (.pdf) isn't as jammed with entertaining possibilities as usual, but there are some important topics under consideration. Supporting documents for tonight's meeting are available on the City website, here.

I bet I know who probably had a hangover. He's at Houlihans at least once a week getting in people's faces and telling them he invented naked Twister.

I saw one of the anti O'Hare people last night. They are already starting with the "people didn't understand" stuff. What does it take?

Maybe an exorcism...? Nothing less could possibly "cure" those so arrogantly self-possessed...
...but the argument will be used to try to persuade the clowncil to provide funding for a fight anyway...and the interesting thing will be to see if Bach, Allegretti, Ryan, and/or Carey have the stones to tell a clear majority of voters "F-U, we disagree and want to fund a fight against the OMP. So we're putting an attorney on retainer and we will spend $xyz for the effort..."
After all, what recourse will PR voters have if they do...vote them out of office?
The ORD Referendum was written poorly. It didn't leave any room for how and why not. The Council and most residents can't seem to get their heads out of their --- I mean out of 2001 and some image of the Suburban O'Hare Commission. That's yesterday's news and yesterday's approach. If every home in this city is devalued because potential buyers don't want to send their kids to Maine South where planes are 300 feet overhead everyday, don't want jet emissions dumped on their cars and yards and have a green bone in their body then perhaps the resident base would understand that "we're all in this together".
I don't think anyone in this City is anti-ORD. It's a great resource. But lets face it people:
All of the revenue generated at ORD goes to the City of Chicago.
The airspace is over full
The airport is landlocked
Expansion would better serve the community if cargo went in and out of Rockford
We can't breathe or sleep
And our property values are plummeting.
Other than that, it's my favorite airport in the world.
@1:52 & @1:55 the question was worded fine. I understood it and voted not to have the city waste more time and money. soc was a failure. throwing more money on another failure is stupid. there is nothing new being offered besides trying consultants or lobbyists. that's even stupider. if we are all in this together then people who now have the new runway noise would have been all over this before the new runway opened. if you can't breath or sleep it's time to cut your losses and move. the housing bubble burst your property values not the airport. get over it.

I agree with the comments here. The questions wording wasn't a problem.
I feel sorry for the people who didn't know what was coming. I admit I didn't know either but we got lucky where we bought our home.
Following this I did learn this town threw away a lot of money before. I don't think trying to repeat history is the smart thing to do when our taxes are still going up with services being cut and so many people still suffering the economic fallout from the last few years.
