The Crew is used to both. So, let your conscience be your guide. ;-)

Anyone Uptown sometimes after 12 today?

Driving down Main St towards Prospect and saw this newly married couple getting their picture taken on the Prospect Ave. crossing.

Sounds a little odd to me.

Question. The Christine & Jennifer Show indicated that the ONCC is a Chicago group. It’s my understanding that the ONCC an advocacy group made-up of representatives from communities surrounding O’Hare and it oversees the insulation program, which is funded by the FAA and City of Chicago. I think the ONCC staff is paid from membership dues and not the City of Chicago. Either Christine & Jennifer are misleading residents and portraying the ONCC as the enemy, or I don’t have a clue. Which is it?

remember that Christine is a Marketing person who is marketing herself.

Why all the negative comments about Christine? Does it make you feel good to bad-mouth others? I don't know Christine personally, but I do know that she has spent a lot of time trying to help her community. Would you do the same? I just have to wonder what is motivating the negative comments.

Some people don't like her just because they say she belongs to a different political party than they do. It's partisanship. No matter how much good she could ever do, they will still accuse Christine of being some kind of traitor.

623--I know her and don't trust her.

To the residents on Cumberland, from Talcott to Touhy--
thanks for cluttering up your street with your hideous yellow signs.
You made one of the main boulevards through our lovely town look like a flea market. If you have an issue, go through the proper channels and laws.

It was an embarassment to see that this weekend.

Gypsy-

The residents did that? Since the signs were on city property (and it's illegal for residents to put signs there), I assumed it was a city initiative.

Sentiments were good, but the signs were a little ugly.

In regards to Christine, Watching her earlier in the year at City Council promoting herself and her Organization that wanted Hundreds of thousands of City money to pursue litigation this year and somewhere of a million of dollars in the next few years. Hearing her go on and on in regards to hiring consultants, attorneys, etc.......

GET RID OF HER!

so if those signes werent put up by the City, those residents should be ticketed an fined?

Would the City be able to prove who put the signs on city property?

Anon 8:50 am - Are the minutes of your referenced City Council meeting posted anywhere? I watched the O'Hare Commission video taped meetings and I didn't hear any discussion of wanting hundreds of thousands of dollars and then millions of dollars after that. Yes, there was some discussion of a lawsuit but as in any brainstorming session, you should discuss all ideas/options. Of course, an easy way to try to turn people against an idea is to tell them it's going to cost them lots and lots of money. Most of the ideas discussed would take very little if any financial output. I say, quit the personal attacks and give them a chance.

Wow!!! I guess I am just not in the same league in terms of sensitivity as some people. I saw the signs on Cumberland many times while driving around this weekend. Not one time did I think about the signs "cluttering up" the stret. I do not know any of the details about who and why they were put up but based on the quality of the signs they are clearly not going to be there for long. The signs certainly send a good message.

I am amazed that someone would see the signs and actually be angry about how they look for the town and actually be pissed enough to post about it. To each their own, but quite frankly I have a hell of a lot more to worry about. If something like that pissed me off I would spend my entire life angry.

poster @ 119-how do you know someone was "pissed" and "angry"? Jump to conclusions much? You must be a longtime resident. You fit the bill, exaggerating and creating your own conflict!

The ONCC people are paid indirectly by Chicago....I asked.
I have had dealings w/ Christine. While I wish the group luck because they are sincere, my advice is don't trust her!!!!!!!!!!!

To those who continue to comment on the character of Ms. Kutt -- we strongly suggest, until you can present solid evidence of her nefarious intent or actions, that you back the hell off.

From what the Crew has seen, she's a remarkably typical Park Ridgean -- we mean that in both the nicest and worst ways.

There will be no more comments accepted for publication about anything other than the collectively or individually stated positions of the PROAC commission members as those positions reflect the issue at hand.

I guess sometimes it is hard to get tone completely accurate based on written versus verbal. To me words like hideous, embarassment and comparing it to a flea market led me to believe the author that the author was angry or very unhappy that the signs were there.

As an aside, I am wrapping up my 5th summer as a PR resident So I do not think I qualify as a longtime resident.

I was not angry nor very unhappy when I wrote that statement or when I saw the signs.
Please don't put words into my mouth or judge what I was thinking.
There are so many other issues to deal with besides what you believe people are thinking. Chill out.

Regarding the placement of signs on Cumberland Ave, Lou Jogmen (Commander of Traffic and Services) and Frank Kaminski (Chief of Police) imlemented the program.

The residents on Cumberland were approached by community service officers and had to give specific permission to the police officers to put those signs up. An informal poll indicates that many of those residences WITHOUT signs were not home when the community police officers were canvassing.

Frankly, the signs have made an enormous improvement in reducing the speeds on the street.

The fact that there are so many signs attests to the fact that many of the residents on Cumberland do in fact see the speed on their street as a problem. At least there has been a tangible response under the current administration to address the speed issues on Cumberland, whereas the prior administration (under Howie) repeatedly denied that there WAS a problem on Cumberland.

If you live on a street with speeding issues, rather than bemoan the actions taken on Cumberland (and acusing the residents there of failing to go through "proper channels and laws," ask the police to do something similar on YOUR street.

The printer is going to be awfully busy!!! Cortland, Belle Plaine, Western and Sibly immediately come to mind.

Seeking Nessie said...

@ Anon 3:03 pm - I wouldn't count on it. Remember, the rational used by Frimark was that "Cumberland Ave already has 10,000 cars a day on it, why not put more traffic on it?"

Yes, Cortland, Belle Plaine, Western and Sibley are busy, but they are not carrying nearly as much non-residential pass-through traffic (expressway to Touhy) as Cumberland is. And they are not likely getting people doing 55+ while kids are trying to get to and from school by crossing the street.

Nessie:

I agree Cumberland is a major road and I have no problem with the signs. Having said that, pleas stand on any corner along Belle Plaine from Tallcott to Prospect today between 2:45 and 3:30. You have kids walking home from all three schools (MS, Loncoln and Washington), parents picking them up (shile chatting on the phone) and the newly liscenced high school students driving home. There are days that I think they should take down the stp signs - no one appears to use them anyway!

@ Anon 12:51 pm - I hear you loud and clear on the stop signs. I was coming home this afternoon on Belle Plaine right around 3:30 and saw a driver blow through the stop sign on Belle Plaine at Cumberland like it wasn't even there. Unfortunately, we've all seen how well the "Stop means STOP" signs have worked. . .
