Put On Your Thinking Cap!

The new Chief of the Park Ridge Police Dept. needs you!

Announced on the City's website --

Chief's advisory task force created
Tuesday, September 15, 2009

A Chief’s Advisory Task Force is being created to assist Park Ridge Police Chief Frank Kaminiski in obtaining feedback and input on Police department issues, performance, and activities.

The Task Force will include about 15-20 volunteers from a cross-section of the community. Members representing a blend of age groups and representing schools, businesses, civic organizations, neighborhoods, clergy and youth, are being sought.

Applications are being accepted in the Chief’s Office, 200 S. Vine. The application is posted here and is available at the Park Ridge Police Department.

Once applications are received, the Mayor will appoint the advisory members and ensure the Task Force represents a cross section of the community. Volunteers will undergo a criminal background check.

Initially, the Task Force will meet on a monthly basis for 90 minutes. The Chief will prepare the meeting agenda, take minutes, and serve as liaison to the task force.

"A Chief’s Advisory Task Force is being created to assist Park Ridge Police Chief Frank Kaminiski in obtaining feedback and input on Police department issues, performance, and activities".

Now I realize that task forces can be governmentese for mucking up everything but this seems like a pretty good idea to me. Do you not want the public to have input? Is it not a good idea to have communications between a group representing the community and the police chief??

Most of all, what the hell does it cost you?? If you think it is a waste of time don't apply to be on the task force. Better yet, don't apply and stop whining.

Sure. this task force will be different from all the other ones doing nothing but blowing hot air. youre right 227. im not wasting my time.

This task force will be different, it's going to represent all types of Park Ridge residents, even high school students.

I don't think I'm as jaded about this as the comment above. I am pretty tired of how many times I am hearing about a task force being formed that will solve all our problems on some issue. I also think all this input from the citizens should have created a garden of eden by now.

Having said that, I am still hopeful that our police are moving to the right track and maybe if they have more face to face time just talking with the citizens they serve then things will get even better.

I am a cop in a neighboring community - think they will accept ME... Am I not part of the diversity they seek.....

The Crew's position is that all should be welcome. If you are a resident in PR, then apply.

An outside opinion on things, from somebody on the job, could be valuable.

The task force idea is nothing new - we all know that. Hell, what did the new Mayor (who most here support) do shortly after his election to "address" the flooding issues?? "I will form a flood task force". I will stick with my original post. What the hell does it cost you?? You do not even have to participate if you do not want to. Hell, it has already given you something else to bitch about, which apparently is a good thing.

I have never had any issues with the police in Park Ridge. I think they are great but we have a new police chief and I think it is a good thing for him to be involved with a group in the community.

We have a great deal to complain about with local government (not to mention state and federal). Unfortunately, the level of cynicism has become so freakin' high that people feel the need to throw stones at something as sensible as a new police chief getting feedback in an organized way from the community.

"Cynicism" is a scare word, meant to disredit those who cast a skeptical eye.

Anon at 7:44AM I agree with you. While I can understand those that question another task force; I think each task force is only as good as its members; and this does give the new chief the opportunity to connect with residents. What a good idea!

I agree too. The police dept task force is a good idea. It is difficult, however, when you hear "task force" not to react and say "another one?"

I too feel that "task force" is code for "our kind". Can't we truly open up these meetings? Why does it always have to revolve around profit?

seems to me that the chief needs two task forces. one to help with relations between the community and the police department, the other to assist him in straightening out the intrnal disaster caused by the caudill regime.

Are you acusing the Mayor of cronyism?? Also, I am not sure what a police task force has to do with profit. I am damn sure the flood task force will not result in any profit.

How about a retired PR cop? I bet not.....
