Bye Bye, Birdie!

Ex-Niles Mayor Nicholas Blase gets year and a day.

And another reversal of fortune.

Have a good weekend.

A year and a day is nothing - I think under the guidelines he can serve that in about 8 months (becasue of "good time") and in a half-way house rather than the joint.

The Advocate is reporting that Blase is paying $750,000 to three school districts serving Niles (including D-64), and that he already paid $1 million to the IRS for taxes owed on his kickbacks. So this kind of crime must sure have been lucrative to Mayor Nick.

Judge Wayne Anderson is a patsy, which is why he wimped out on sentencing rather than giving Blase the 3-4 years the government asked for to punish Blase's 30 year shakedown scam. This probably encourages rather than discourages crooked politicians.

But at least Fast Eddie will be getting his just desserts.

Nick Blase is going to prison where he belongs. I don't really care about the length of the sentence. He will be locked up with other felons, denied the freedom that we all take for granted, and forever branded as a disgrace to his town, his party, his family and himself.

Serves him right. If we don't care about honesty in government, we're China. Or Zimbabwe. Or Russia. Take your pick.

You know I've been thinking, Even though he's a disgrace, funny thing he probably did do a lot of good durring his 47 years as mayor.

Niles got the " All American City Award" under Blase.

It's amazing when you think of it.

Mike --

You are joking, right?

MIKE said...

Not exactly. I'm not even defending or sympathizing with Blase nor am I saying saying I believe he was good, especially doing wrong for so many years.

I'm not knowledgable about his tenure as mayor, but the fact the town was given AMC award which was way back in 1965, he had to have done something right.

Mike:

As a general rule, if someone has to use an example from 1965 as the good you have done, ya better try a little harder to be good!!!!!

Doesn't matter how long ago it was.
