On the whole, Park Ridge is not as snobbish as some people who live in Park Ridge are. I'm not even sure I know what blue collar truely means. If you are in the trades does that make you blue collar or is being considered blue collar based on your level of income?
All these labels some people feel some need to put on others is just silly.
Park Ridge is a North Shore wannabe. Our collar collars are as follows: 1) Snobs either from DAR or Norwegia provenance, with or without money. Think Judy B. 2)Those who could afford to move elsewhere but know they'd be dwarfed by real money, houses, dinner parties, opera, ravinia, euro vacations, etc. etc. Here they are big fish in a relatively modest pond. Think a lot of new-money, first-generation advanced degree-holders with blue collar parents. 3)Middle-class folks with small businesses -- or mid-sized jobs in big companies. This type of resident made this Bedford Falls what it has been since the l950s and we are their grateful descendents. 40 years ago, most of the panel trucks in the driveways belonged to the heads of household. Today, hands-on skilled tradesmen are in both categories 2 and 3 -- some made money in the housing boom but whether they're a bigass contractor or a little handman/remodeler, these guys know how to do real stuff. What's not to admire? We are not Kenilworth; hell, we aren't even Wilmette when it comes to sophistication or salary. We've been maybe Northbrook. But whatever our demographic, we like it here just fine, with or without beer and wine.
So a few munites ago I pop over to the other PR blog to see what's up. I read the last comment in the 9/8 thread (the Mayor's e-mail on FEMA). After falling off my chair laughing, I decide to post my thoughts on the hypocracy of the Myaor. Guess what?? The thread is closed - you cannot post.
Their stated policy is that they close a thread after a new thread is posted -there is no new thread posted. Apparently they should expand that to include after any post that makes the Mayor look foolish!!
Mayor DipSchmidt is promoting government assistance for those who have suffered *material losses*, DUH!
You see, if you're a person who has material prossessions you've lost then it's okay to seek out gov't. assistance...assistance provided through taxes collected from taxpayers...
...but if you're a person who is elderly, infirm, disabled, hungry, in danger of becoming homeless, or in need of some other "social" assistance for your actual person vs. assistance to replace a material possession...
What has changed for both the Mayor and the Public Watchdog is with whom they choose to align themselves and from whom they seek, get, and take opinions and advice; unmitigated extremism in a sadly insular inner circle.
My personal opinion is that the "attraction" has been based solely upon party affiliation and monetary potential.
Extremely pathetic, all in, and the antithesis of the principles upon which the Mayor campaigned.
My issue is not with "extreme" positions. My issue is with consistency. I understand that people are going to have different ideas related to the role of government etc, but I cannot tolerate picking and choosing the issue or organizations on which to jump up on the soap box. If the Mayor really believes what he has said related to organizations and essentials then I expect him to apply it to everything. He does not do that.
We don't believe we've ever characterized the current Mayor as a dictator.
In fact, the very opposition he faces on the current Council prevents him from becoming a dictator -- opposition which his predecessor did not enjoy and was therefore able to act far more dictatorial than the current gavel holder.
Also, the current Mayor has taken great pains to point out his inability to act as a dictator because of the Council's opposition to his views -- the current Mayor has used his inability to act as a dictator as an excuse to avoid making certain commitments to policy positions, especially where the city budget is concerned.
Nay -- as Anon@4:05 pointedly stated, the fundamental flaw of the current Mayor is his inconsistency in promoting his policy positions, as are the words and actions of some of the those who support and cheer on the Mayor's positions.
And we have found the Mayor's personal conduct and character severely lacking when the proverbial push comes to shove.
My mistake. I should have been more clear. I meant his followers/inner circle care very little about good government as long as their puppet does their bidding.
As we've previously stated, we've seen the City receive benefit from contracts that have not gone out for bid.
What we have objected to regarding the Mayor's biggest campaign contributor, who holds the City's bifurcated website contracts for design and maintenance, is the lack of transparency and accountability in telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth about the total amounts received by the contractor before any funds were donated through the City for promotional and familial purposes.
Those who engaged in lauding the pass through of funds knew very well the details of the arrangement, but chose to allow the community to be given a less than clear understanding and impression of the give back. However, we find it no more and no less than the exaggerations, misinformation and shading of the truth we've found in other areas involving this particular City vendor -- pop-psychologists would credit insecurity as the inspiration.
That being said, if the City were to put the next website contract out to bid, we feel the City isn't likely to get a remarkably better deal, and we are willing to nearly guaranty there would be no "give back" of any kind should another website design firm win the bid. And the potential savings from a bid probably would not come close to covering the "give back."
What we fail to understand is the reason for the lack of honesty, integrity, transparency and accountability -- particularly on the Mayor's part.
"Their stated policy is that they close a thread after a new thread is posted -there is no new thread posted. Apparently they should expand that to include after any post that makes the Mayor look foolish!!"
1:44 PM the Republican Attorney who runs it is a political player for the local Republican party. Political games are what matter to him. Just read his posts over there when he doesn't like what you said. If you criticize him or Republicans he launches off.
It would appear demands for ethical conduct are something one demands from the other guy but not one's self or one's friends. That is the impression I get from the owner of the other PR blog.
I read your post and think it is spot on!! I remember them talking about Frimark and his "coffee meetings". It would appear they have their own such meetings. The only difference is I bet they are having someting a bit stronger than coffee.

LOL. How blue collar!

I had no idea ol' Ben was soooo "blue-collar!" ;)
Right. For upscale communities like Kennilworth, Hinsdale and Park Ridge, only white wine and brie cheese will do.
On the whole, Park Ridge is not as snobbish as some people who live in Park Ridge are. I'm not even sure I know what blue collar truely means. If you are in the trades does that make you blue collar or is being considered blue collar based on your level of income?

Beer before liquor, never sicker. Liquor before beer, never fear.
Cheers!
Boy you guys really like to get up on your big-ass soapbox don't you?
Anon@8:01 --
No way. We never drink and get up on our big-ass soapbox. Somebody could fall off and get hurt!
But PRU, think of all those ambulance fees for the city!
Anon@8:12 --
Brilliant idea!
Everybody -- Salud! Then up on the soapbox!

Anon 8:18,
Sounds like you started the party without us.

1:44 Your first mistake was to pop over to the other blog.

No libel. No bullshit.
We have no idea what you are referring to exactly and, in any case, to each his own.
However, we're fairly certain the general membership was not the object for indulgence of prurient interests.
PRU.ADMIN my comment wasn't libel or bullshit. You should ask around. What I tried to post is what people are saying.
Anon@8:43 --
People say a lot of things. We find most of it mildly interesting and usually irrelevant to public policy consideration.
Enjoy the rest of your evening.
1:44 PM
The other blog has changed and so has the mayor and I wonder why.
I don't understand what is going on but I don't like it.
They both seem so extreme all of a sudden.
I wanted to also say I believe the Aldermen will do the right thing.
I thought the Mayor would do the right thing but he has changed to the extreme.
I am tired of extremists on both sides. Enough already.
A12:15&:21,
"Extremist" is the operative word.
What has changed for both the Mayor and the Public Watchdog is with whom they choose to align themselves and from whom they seek, get, and take opinions and advice; unmitigated extremism in a sadly insular inner circle.

We've noticed the same inconsistency, which may also be referred to as the employment of double standards.
We had hoped that era of leadership style was past us -- we regret having to feel it has not.
PRU I'm beginning to fear you are right. It's just a different group of people saying that he may be a dictator, but he's our dictator.
Anon@4:24 --

The mayor is a jerk and so is his propaganda minister who runs the other blog.
Mind your Godwin's Law, people.

I completely agree with you!!! (after googlin' what the hell godwin's law is!!!!!!)
