The people at Pub. Watchdog don't have everything accurate. There were two consultants over a span of about eight years looking into this project. Moyer and Senti Rubl came up with very similar, yet independent numbers. Moyer did his thing, got questioned to death by the council (which I guess is OK) until a new council got voted in and fired Moyer. The new council hired Senti Rubl, and they came up with recommendations very similar to those Moyer provided. Then Senti Rubl got questioned to death until, again, another new council got voted in and we start all over. In the meantime, we're dealing with asbestos, mold, electrical hazards, trip hazards, and insect/rodent infestation throughout the building. WE NEED SOMETHING AND WE AND NEED IT NOW! Go ahead and build a substandard facility if that's what you want. It will need modifications and upgrades in less than 5 years. The City cut corners to save a few bucks when they added on to the PD several years ago, and that's part of the reason we're in the predicament we're in now. They thought it would be a clever way to save money by forgoing the plumbing in the add on section (against the city's own codes)when the addition went on in the 80's. Great planning by the city officials...even though the desk attendants have no where to go to the bathroom. These consultants, whether you care to admit it or not, know what they're doing...they're professionals who are familiar with industry standards and legal requirements. They know how to anticipate future problems and avoid them. They are not the deceptive fiends Pub. Watchdog portrays them to be. Save the people of PR a lot of money...listen to the experts you hire...build it right the first time....and, for the love of God, build it soon. We're tired of the sub-human conditions in this shit hole.
We at PublicWatchdog agree that the current condition of the police station is unacceptable.
But most sane and reasonable people facing conditions like "asbestos, mold, electrical hazards, trip hazards, and insect/rodent infestation" simply correct them (ever heard of Orkin?) - they don't go out and spend $10-20 Million on a new building 4 times larger than the current one. Not unless, of course, they can do so by wasting somebody else's (a/k/a, the "taxpayers") money, and maybe evem give some favored private property owner a sweetheart price for the land on which to build it.
We also agree that "[t]hese [cop shop] consultants...know what they're doing": They know that they can bamboozle pliable public officials who possess liberal taxing and borrowing power into doing all sorts of things that a majority of the taxpayers either don't want or don't want to pay for, all while claiming that borrowing and spending all those millions will actully "[s]ave the people of PR a lot of money." That's also why those officials hate the word "referendum."
But we have to question why, if the current police station truly is such a "shit hole" of "sub-human conditions," would any self-respecting human continue to work there; or why there are always so many applicants for each job opening. We can't imagine that all of those applicants are "sub-humans" desperately searching for a "shit hole" in which to work.
So fess up, Anonymous: Do you suffer from low self-esteem, or are you just lobbying for a bigger office and all those conveniences an extra 30,000 square feet of space would provide?
P.S. Next time, feel free to post your comment on OUR site.
hey anonymous at 3:23am-- what's all the ranting? give it a rest. your posting (AGAIN) does not have anything to do with the topic. why are you complaining about Public Watchdog here? why arent you complaining there? perhaps there is no reasoning with a crazy person... Merry Christmas!
I just gotta know...WHY do they send the entire police force out for an accident like tonight on Touhy? even the detective in the unmarked car? Maybe 9 or 10 cars were there. Sorry about the kid getting hit and I hope he is OK, but geez.
more importantly than that: WHY are the teenagers, in large groups, racing across the street in traffic, weaving in and out of the moving cars? is it a game?

We will give the PRU crew Xmas off--just this once. We will expect them to be in all the earlier on December 26.
Joys of the season to all!
...and a Happy Festivus too. What time do we begin the "Airing of Grievances"?!
