In The Spotlight!

This is soooooo classic Howie (from today's online Herald-Advocate): "Frimark stated that Hock was not his first choice for city manager, claiming that his preferred candidate withdrew his name from consideration "upon realization that the political atmosphere was so toxic that [his] vision of Park Ridge would not be realized."

TOXIC?!! Howie, you CREATED that!!!

Herald-Advocate: Updated 5/5: Park Ridge OKs James Hock as city manager

The PRU Crew would like to extend our welcome to the new Park Ridge City Manager, Mr. James Hock. We hope that, unlike Mayor Howard's first choice for city manager, you work to realize a vision of Park Ridge that is the residents' and not just your own.

HOward's preferred candidate didn't want to have to deal with the tough public scrutiny, so he withdrew...showing himself to be spineless, if not totally weak...

No wonder he was HOward's preferred candidate...wanting to forego public scrutiny is a character trait they have in common...

Hock brings 30 years of experience with him and also, apparently, some backbone that can withstand tough public scrutiny...

It's a start...

Kudos to PRU for any role played in thwarting the installment of another spineless puppet in our local government.

James Hock is well qualified and had considerable support among the aldermen. The fact that he was not the mayor's first choice is unimportant. To the contrary, the fact that the mayor's first choice declined the appointment is a blessing for the City. Mr. Hock is not the mayor's man. He is OUR man. Time will tell if Mr. Hock is really the right man for the job, but I call on the citizens of Park Ridge to give this gentleman time to get his feet wet and to give him the benefit of the doubt unless and until circumstances dictate otherwise.

Howard Frimark is so classless sometimes it's breathtaking.

Welcome to our new City Mgr. I liked what I read in the article. I hope everything works out for the best for everybody.

“The political atmosphere was so toxic”. Toxic? What is he referring to? Is saying others are playing dirty because they are calling him out on his lies, deceptions and paybacks to campaign contributors and business contacts? How can he say this with a straight face? This is like Ted Kennedy complaining about people drinking too much.

I must admit I was not sure what Park Ridge Underground would accomplish when it first came online, but if its only accomplishment is to shame Frimark and his pals and prevent them from “realizing” their “vision” then God Bless Park Ridge Underground. You should be very proud today.

I would love to hear what Howie thinks the candidate's "Vision for Park Ridge" would have been.
Perhaps he just didn't want to be another puppet.

Steve Macko is right on the money (no pun intended). I don't always agree with PRU, but when it comes to the new city manager issue,PRU has once again performed the function of a real and rigorous community newspaper and played a key role in averting another disaster for the city. Congrats and bouquets to you, PRU!

Does anyone know the real story on this? Did the mayor's choice withdraw willingly? Or did the mayor tell him to withdraw so that the mayor could avoid the appearance of the aldermen overturning his decision?

the headline on today's Journal about "blaming the blogs" is hysterical!!!
What a FANTASTIC welcome for the new guy whose appointment is overshadowed by Howie going to the press and saying that he wasn't the first choice.
Step aside, Mr. Mayor, and let the city proceed with business. Get some counseling for your obsessive need to create drama.

Nothing is more welcoming than telling the new guy that he was third in line for the job. (I can only imagine how Howie proposed to his second wife.) He has all the tact and grace of a constipated elephant, who at the most in-opportune moment, chooses to find relief.

The only person currently more out of touch appears to be Hillary with her "on to the White House" speech. (Yes, maybe she can take the guided tour some day.)

While Howie is blaming the blogs and politics, could the real reason the first two backed out simply be that they just don't want to work with HOward??? Now that is kinda bruising to the ego, isn't it Mr. Mayor.
