A PRU Two-fer!

Today we read in the Journal & Topics that Mayor Howard is upset about "the blog" again. Excellent!

Mayor Howard, you may file a formal complaint with the PRU Crew Complaint Department. Please take a number and the next available representative will be with you shortly.

In the future, Mayor Howard, remember to consult your oath of office and refrain from any attempt to use the conventional press to promulgate your lies; for your convenience, we've added a link to the Merriam-Webster definition that also includes a pronunciation key for the word 'promulgate'.

We understand that you like to appear to be in control of everything; it helps your stature among your generous contributors. But Howard, we just aren't willing to sit idly by while you try to dupe the public, our friends and neighbors, by using the dupes in the press as your unwitting mouth pieces.

The times they are a-changin'.

At last night's Procedures and Regulations committee meeting the topic of whether or not St. Mary's Episcopal Church and the Journeys from PADS to Hope organization will have to seek a special use permit before opening a homeless shelter was discussed.

Sources tell us that the committee, chaired by 4th ward Alderman Allspaghetti, serving with 1st ward Ald. Schmidtzkrieg and the Unfriendly Ghost of the 6th ward, Ald. Tom Carey, are likely to recommend that a special use permit be sought before a shelter is allowed to open.

Ald. Schmidtzkrieg offered compelling evidence from a Seventh Circuit Court decision that he said clearly lays out the framework allowing that a "neutral zoning ordinance is applicable to churches".

We expect that at a future meeting the Procedures and Regulations committee will recommend for approval to the full City Council that any entity seeking to open a homeless shelter anywhere in Park Ridge will be required to seek a special use permit.

We hope the full City Council adopts that recommendation.

If the PADS has to get a special use permit, does that mean they will have to do impact studies on the neighborhood? I would like to see that because I do not believe that opening this shelter will not have an impact on the neighborhood as the PRMA is saying.

As we understand it, impact studies -- such as traffic and parking -- are a distinct possibility in the consideration of a special use permit.

I found a lovely quote in the current issue of Vanity Fair, which is referring to the President, but fits well in our little town too:
“In less than a year, the Bush Administration will strut out of office, leaving the country in roughly the same condition a toddler leaves a diaper.” ~Graydon Carter, Vanity Fair

Hey PRU - do you know anything about that house on Summit that had the fire two weeks ago and last weekend had the PRPD swat team there?

Nope.

PRPD has a SWAT team???

Keep up the good work, PRU. Anytning that ticks off Frimark should be presumed to be a good thing. I still can't believe this PADS thing has gotten this far.

Wow. It would appear that when Howard Frimark's chicanery is brought to light that his true boorish colors are revealed. It is nothing less than an embarrassment to our town. I am repulsed.

Blogs are a burr under Howard's saddle? Good. That's what the Framers had in mind when they tucked freedom of the press into the Bill of Rights.

Viva PRU!

Incidentally, in response to Ms Manchester, (1) you are right about the diaper, and (2) Park Ridge is part of a consortium of suburban police departments and among them they have a trained SWAT team which is called into action as necessary.

m.anderson, thanks for the clarification. It's surprising to me that Mayberry would need their own SWAT team. I still expect Barney Fyfe to have a single bullet in his pocket.

congrats to the new city manager and lets hope he doesn't buy any of the HEAVY B.S. and maybe he cleans a little house! :)

Anon @ 8:19...I join in the congrats, but a housecleaning of staff is not what will cure what the problems I believe you are thinking about. The city employees I have dealt with are competent and dedicated. The change you apparently seek must come in the form of pressure on your elected officials. The next election is for mayor. Focus your attention there.

I agree with the above. We gotta speak with our votes, and get out the vote in a big way!
Nice to see that the staggering of terms will be on the November ballot (from today's Herald-Advocate).

Fire on Summit started from someone leaving an iron on and setting it on a mattress.
SWAT team showed up at the same house last weekend after someone decided to take some target practice with a 22 inside the house.
Yes, PRPD DOES have a SWAT team, and they operated like real professionals. They were super careful approaching the house and made sure a large perimeter was set up in case the shooter decided to go postal.

Since the prevailing candidate was not Howard Frimark's first choice, and since it appears that some of the aldermen are beginning to think independently, is it therefore reasonable to assume the new City Mangager was selected by an ADD Hock Committee?

alderman dave, I'm definetely not referring to the little guys out there doing there jobs. I was referring to the elected officials, and anyone heading up a department who might not be qualified. That's all.
