All Things AWOL!

#1. -- Petty theft politics

The PRU Crew continues to read comments and receive emails about Schmidt campaign signs going awol during the night. What surprises us is that anyone is surprised by this turn of events.

Remember people, Mayor Howard is the guy who personally imposed himself into an effort by private citizens to collect petition signatures for their referendum effort -- free speech and the democratic process be damned. Never mind that Mayor Howard
does not practice what he preaches.

Is anyone really surprised that suspected Frimark supporters may be channelling the mind-set of their leader by denying free speech to fellow citizens through acts of petty theft of campaign yard signs?

We've got news for you, the petty political tricks will get worse before all is said and done.

#2. -- Petty cash?

Some PRU readers may remember that back in April 2008 we discussed the
Shrinkage in spending on street resurfacing. The PRU Crew was crabbing about cut backs on infrastructure maintenance, the burgeoning city budget which is funded primarily through property taxes, and stupid spending decisions for "space needs studies" and "vision" plans.

According to a document forwarded to us -- we guess it's too much to ask that these documents appear on the City website -- we can see that street resurfacing isn't the only item where cut backs have taken place, or where over-spending a budget line item has become an issue.

2007-2008 Capital Project Summary

Our discussion last April was intended to get PRU readers to begin paying attention to the City budget process. And we included a link to a Herald-Advocate article that invited citizens to comment on the proposed City budget.

Well once again it's that time of year people! Pay attention and speak up now!

#3. -- Petit agenda

Tonight's City Council meeting agenda (.pdf) is again serving up a menu of items on the consent agenda -- 5 out of 7 items, to be precise, along with one closed session to discuss the discipline, performance, dismissal or employment of specific employee(s) pursuant to Chapter 5, Act 120, Section 2(c)(1) of the ILCS (review appointment of a Department Director).

One of the probable reasons for the City Council agendas being short on items for public discussion is likely because many people understand that the closer the election comes, the less they want the mumbler in the big chair and his Alderlapdogs yapping for the official record! Not that any of the City's official records ever quite accurately capture the discussions that take place during meetings, and that is why the PRU Crew will again try to post a council recap tomorrow.

I was wondering which campaign was getting their signs stolen. I actually thought it was Frimark whose signs were being stolen since there are so few around town.

we need to get back to the issues. Focuse on the problems at hand, not this petty stuff.
thank you.

Stay Classy, Park Ridge.

What? Yard Signs missing?

The Toad must be hopping around town again!

Fuming over damaged or missing yard signs is a waste of time. After all, the miscreants are either (1) kids with nothing better to do, or (2) misguided jerks trying to throw you off your game. Just replace the signs and stay focused on the real task.

Fr Mackenzie,
its not kids
its not random
its the sleazeball tactics that have been running our town for the past few years

No it's not a waste of time expressing anger against campain sighns being stolen.

You think people wanna keep getting new ones all the time?

I actually find a bit of pleasure in the signs being stolen. It's proof that my prayers are being answered and even Frimark knows it. So no, I'm not fuming, I'm laughing.

I drove all over PR yesterday running errands. I only counted 7 Frimark signs. There are 7 Schmidt signs on the 2 blocks around my house.

Signs don't vote. Don't let the lack of signs from Frimark fool you.

All we need to do is look to the last Mayoral election for proof. Tinaglia had a ton of signs around town.

I know different candidates, with different circumstances, different timing, etc.

My only point is that signs don't vote. We all need to be working to get Dave elected.

Don't let up until that last vote is counted:
Talk to you friends, neighbors, send a letter to the editor, send a friend to friend postcard, walk for Dave, walk with Dave...do something.

If you sit and do nothing you have no one to blame but yourself.

This just doesn't rest on Dave's shoulders, but all of ours.

I am not overstating when I say that the future and character of this town are at stake (ok..maybe I'm overstating just a bit), but really things are changing in this town either due to Frimark's direct actions or his completely frustrating lack of action (or knowledge that things are happening outside the town).

I suppose that is what happens when the Mayor of your town is only here six months of the year.

People...email, call, or stop by the Dave Schmidt Office TODAY. Do it now...don't think that someone else is doing it.

KS of course you are correct. I didn't mean to imply that this was a shoe in for Dave. I know Frimark's supporters are quiet about supporting him, and they do vote. I'm talking up Dave to everyone I know in PR.

Schmidt addressed the issue about sign stealing at last night's City Council meeting. He did it with class and was short & direct.
I don't think Frimark was paying attention, but it was done well.
Now back to our regularly-scheduled drama.

oh, and I DID learn something new last night at City Council. Frimark's new word for the airport we are close to...He calls it "O'Hairport"
God bless us, everyone.
