The City of Park Ridge will be 100 years old next year. The first City Council meeting was held on July 7, 1910. The PRU Crew is wondering if in all that time any Mayor has ever exercised the legal power of his veto.
Well people, there is a first time for everything -- and we may have on tonight's City Council agenda (.pdf) what could possibly be the first Mayoral veto of a City Council action in the history of Park Ridge.
Crack that whip! Give the past the slip!
Mayor Schmidtzkrieg has issued a memo to the City Council detailing his reasons for issuing a spending veto -- a spending veto! -- of the Council's decision to approve "contributions to various community groups over and above the amounts specified in the budget for the 2009-10 fiscal year adopted by the City Council on April 20, 2009." (emphasis added)
When somethings going wrong, you must whip it!
We can hardly wait to hear the reports of the Alderspenders tortured justifications for insisting on going over and above the budgeted amount they originally approved, and why it is necessary to override Mayor Schmidtzkrieg's veto, as we expect they will.
It's not too late to whip it, whip it good!
Also available on the City website is another memo from Mayor Schmidtzkrieg naming Mr. Joseph Sweeney as the Mayor's choice to fill the remainder of the term for 1st ward Alderman.
The PRU Crew was very happy to see that Mayor Schmidtzkrieg did the right and honorable thing by disclosing to the Council that Mr. Sweeney was a generous $150 contributor to his campaign. We noticed that campaign disclosure statements weren't due for a few weeks -- you know we try to keep track of those things -- but we were hoping this wouldn't be deja vu all over again! We're very glad it's not.
Get straight! Go forward! Move ahead!
The PRU Crew is looking forward to throwing back a few and coming up with possible monikers for the new Council member -- after we've had a chance to see him in action, and assuming the Council approves this appointment.
No one gets away until they whip it!
Once again people, we hope to have a recap for our faithful PRU readers tomorrow!
Whip it good!

We wish Mayor Dave all the best in his new position as our leader.
We also hope that the city council will weld together and unite against local government wasteful spending.
We understand that the teens need their center - but come on..when you're in the hole for 2 mill...
The flooding issue is also key and should be addressed. But for those who want overhead sewers...go for it.
It's also great to see homes being sound proofed in the 7th ward.
Also known as POW's..prisoners of windows! ..just before runway 9 Center is paid for through the Illinois delegation - connection. Daley to Ray La Hood that is...
Hopefully Rep. Jan S. will also come through with her promises
as stated along the parade route!!
Onward!
I'd like to make a correction.
PR is actually 136 years old.
What happened is they established a village form of govornment which was in 1873 and in 1910 is when they formed a city form of govornment.
It's an easy mistake to make considering that the seal in the council room says established in 1910.
Yet another significant difference between the former mayor and the current one - full disclosure of the contribution from the guy he's appointing to fill his seat.
Now let's hope that Sweeney doesn't pull an Allegretti and make a second contribution AFTER he gets the appointment.
Yeah, Jimmy, it still looks kinky as hell!
Gooooo Mayor Dave! Nice to see a representative who isn't afraid of doing the right thing, the right way...
Very refreshing!
I have been able to chat with Mr. and Mrs. Sweeney on occasion...and I'm delighted that Mr. Sweeney has stepped up to the plate to take on the responsibility of being an Alderman.
he's not gonna fit in with them, Bean. he's direct and forthright. He seems to want what's best for the community.
Not what the others are like AT ALL.
Say partners.....didn't we see a rented democratic mule hitched up outside and in front of 505 ?
I believe state sen. Dan K. was a ride'in him while passing out those
democratic maine township flash cards during the last election cycle. Yep!
The dems down there in the 7th ward a younder.....are not too a happy with what's going on here and with the US Atty's office/investigation.
- Howard - color him gone
- Danno - playing both sides
- Rosie - changes colors - fast
- Blago - lock'em up
- The 350k missing
- The 20 k missing
- IDOT - pay'em
The pipeline is plugged up for now.
They are gonna have ta find some more money - elsewhere...I guess.
Ryans comment last night about "having to get used to this whole transparancy thing" was the most honest comment made by any of them.
Dude...move on from your Democratic Party paranoia. There are MANY dems in PR these days. How about focusing on what is BEST for the town?
And by the way...there are MANY MANY evil Republicans in the area.
