House Of Cards!

Just about everywhere one reads the news, the talk of the day is the economy. And foreclosures. And people losing their homes. The PRU Crew doesn't know anyone who hasn't felt the pinch.

In last week's Pioneer Local there was a story about
Foreclosures rising fastest in northern suburbs. On the same day as the Pioneer article appeared, we published a piece about vacant homes and the necessity for enforcement of the City's property maintenance code. Also, at last Monday's City Council meeting, City Manager Jim Hock reminded the Council of the City's property maintenance code, and City staff and the Council discussed the problems of neglected properties.

However, failing to make mortgage payments isn't the only way someone can lose their home. Failing to pay property taxes is another way a homeowner can lose their property.

On July 16, 2009 beginning at 8:30 a.m. the
2007 Annual Tax Sale for delinquent property tax liens will take place. The annual tax sale is the County's attempt to move delinquent properties back onto the property tax generating rolls and collect past due payments.

When people fail to pay their taxes, we all suffer and have to pick up the slack.

Of course nobody is immune to the problems in the economy and, according to the Cook County Treasurer's records, there are a number of Maine Township properties set to be sold for delinquent taxes -- properties like the one below --

Property PIN number 09-27-414-018-0000

According to the Cook County Treasurer, former Mayor Howard P. Frimark failed to pay his 2007 2nd installment property tax bill, and it looks like he's failed to pay his 2008 1st installment property tax bill too.

After over-seeing two consecutive years of millions of dollars in deficit spending by the City of Park Ridge we find former Mayor Howard hasn't managed to keep his personal accounts in order either.

Somehow, we aren't surprised.

Can you just imagine Fancy Nancy in her lawn chair in front of a trailer? Thank you anonymous at 2:23pm for that vision. Priceless!

Someone here should buy the taxes at sale....that would be classic.

$16,000,000 for a new police station. Of course he was in favor of it. He wasn't gonna pay anyway.

There is a certain tension, for a public figure, between what is a private matter and what is a public one.

Howard Frimark made himself a public figure via his various community activities and the elective and appointed offices he held. Accordingly, his non-payment of property taxes is properly a matter of public interest - especially because that non-payment occurred when he was the mayor of our community.

It is ironic that Frimark failed to pay the taxes that, as an outspoken supporter of the 2007 District 64 tax increase referendum, he helped raise; and that his non-payment of those taxes has deprived District 64 and the other taxing bodies of money to which they are entitled.

Poor Howard. It's going to be harder to pay those property taxes now that he doesn't have the many additional advantages of being the mayor (like free advertising for his business on the city web site, and his name plastered on signs around town).

I wonder if Citizen Frimark is up to date on his Park Ridge Country Club dues?

What is also interesting from these images is that our former mayor didn't pay his 1st installment of 2007 taxes until exactly the due date of the 2nd installment.

Has PRU checked our current mayor and aldermorons to see if they are also up to date on their property taxes?

A few years ago while looking to appeal the increase in the assessed value of my home I was checking comparables wihin a few blocks of my home and the person with the lowest assesed value per sq ft by a considerable percentage was none other than my local aldermoron. Some people just know how to work the system.

Cymru --

We have not checked them all. A member of the Crew happened to come across the subject property through serendipity.

But anyone should feel free to go on a scavenger hunt of their own.

We would suggest starting with the Cook County Assessor's Office online. You can plug an address into the search to get the PIN number.

After that, you can go to the Cook County Treasurer's Office online and plug the PIN into the payment status search.

Happy hunting!

I am pretty sure somewhere along the line during the recent Mayoral election HOward's minions were trying to paint Schmidt into a corner for associating with supporters who were in mortgage foreclosure... for whatever the reason. Seeing this one has to say: what a bunch of freakin' hypocrites.

Howard cannot leave town too soon.

Hmmmm yet another amusing fact of Howie's bill. He neglected to take the homeowners exemption, and possible the senior citizens exemption (?? not sure if he's old enough.)

Howard is gone. He is no longer Mayor. While I obviously do not have the same experiences with him that many of you appear to, I am very glad the citizens of PR saw fit to vote him out of office.

Now can we take a deep breath and let it go. If there are things that he has done that are illegal, let's hope he is being investigated. Otherwise how about we press on with the issues of the day. It would appear to me that some who post here will not be happy until they read his obituary - and then would find something sarcastic to say about that.

Howard is not "gone." He is still going around town slandering the new mayor. He deserves every single little bit of misfortune that life can pile on top of him. Until he changes his ways, I will not feel sorry for him at all.

Hey 12:04 pm....don't worry...
Howard will outflank the devil/guards and still make heaven by noon!

it's so classless that Howard is going around town saying bad stuff about the new mayor. But that just proves (once again) that he only cares about his own agenda, and not for what's best for the people of PR.

I don't wish him ill will and of course don't want to see him dead (how crazy is THAT comment?) but it would give me GREAT pleasure to see him rot in jail for the crap he has pulled.

You cannot argue that this town is in the spot it's in right now all due to him. The voters made the right decision to oust him and bring in someone who cares about the community.

I really have to get out more. I have not even seen the guy since he left office let alone know that he is in fact running around town bad mouthing the new mayor.

If that is the case it would appear he has a great deal in common with Cheney.

I think Howard is just trying to get appointed to Obama's cabinet.

Why are we getting such cool weather?

And so musch of the other parts of the country are better off weatherwise.

Gosh it's June.

jdawg said...

gypsy -- perhaps you forgot all of Obama's appointees with tax problems??? Get it???

Anonymous said...

Gyp,

Gotta agree with jdawg, joining Obamas team seems more than approriate in this case. You'd be hard pressed NOT to find an appointee by Obama that hasn't has some kind of tax issue, it almost seems to be a requirement.

Good call jdawg!

gypsy said...

Obama's too smart to associate himself with someone like Frimark

I apologize for putting my post about the weather here.

I meant it for the thread up above.
