"The thorn defends the rose"

Last week we talked about Rainbow Hospice and the Taste of Park Ridge. The PRU Crew's sentiments about both of these organizations and their activities hasn't changed. We still very much appreciate them both.

Our faithful PRU readers may remember from last year
our post about the Taste of Park Ridge. We offered PRUdos to the Pub-dogs for pushing for transparency in the face of some seriously strident opposition and criticism.

The Pub-dogs are again making
another call for transparency, regarding the financial arrangements for the Taste of Park Ridge Inc.

And again the PRU Crew is appreciating the tenacity of the Pub-dogs.

In the words of a Shaolin master -- "To suppress a truth is to give it force beyond endurance."

Anon@3:35 --

I had only considered in passing what may arise from discussions about businesses in town should the discussion somehow not be related to some public policy issue.

The Crew has generally adhered to the idea that discussions of businesses should be related, as directly as possible, to some public policy issue.

While nothing about your comment is wrong or offensive or any of the things we usually flush comments for, I was asked to review your submission because the moderator questioned the general appropriateness of discussing businesses for the purpose of seeking consumer/customer references and recommendations.

There is also the issue of our not knowing whether yours is a legitimate request for information from a genuine potential customer, or whether someone is posing as a potential customer for the promotion of their own business.

I do realize that your conerns are related to the issue of flooding, which is most definitely a public policy conern for all of Park Ridge.

However, your question about local businesses that provide homeowners with flood and sewer back-up relief, customer experiences, and recommendations is just a little too beyond what I am comfortable with having become a discussion here, because we have continually foregone general promotion of any single or particular local businesses.

For these reasons, we will not be posting comments seeking recommendations for businesses.

I'm sorry.

I can tell you I am not entirely comfortable with the decision I have made.

And I may change my mind on this matter at a future date, but not today.

Without knowing exactly what Anon@3:35 is looking for, I would offer the following:

There are websites and advertising in the local papers for companies and organizations that provide ratings of businesses and customer satisfaction ratings as well. Suggest Anon@3:35 check those out.
