Love Letters!

Dear parkridgeunderground -

Thank you for allowing me this opportunity
to allow my comment on your fear based
website.

The more I read further makes me believe
that the goals set forth for your website
are ill mannered and destructive in nature.

Furthermore, I believe that whom ever
decides to volunteer and serve the city
of Park Ridge as its mayor and or city
council member will be fair game whether
they like it or not.

To punish those who give of their time day
in and day out borders on liable and is wrong.

No matter who or what your end game is -
its not in the best interest of the people of
Park Ridge. This anonymous approach continues
to backfire like an old car and it smells.

Who appointed you the judge and the jury ?

Take it down - now !

Thank you.

Isn't he the whack job from the sixth ward?

Mr. Spanos,

I believe the word you wanted was "libel".

Anonymous said...

Hey Eugene,
I'm sure you meant "libel" in your post. Look up the definition in a dictionary. Check the facts. Most of what is written herein is public knowledge or verified by numerous sources and therefore defined as fact. You are entitled to your opinion, which I would go farther to defend then you could ever imagine, no matter how ignorant.

Spanos must be manic-depressive. He's got a letter in today's Advocate complaining about bad city management because it's blaming public employee pensions for its budget problems.

Isn't Spanos a retired Rosemont cop? That might explain a few things.

There are people who just don't get it.

Thanks to PRU for all you do.

Let's hear it for the marketplace of ideas!

Mr. Spanos is free to voice his opinion that PRU should go; PRU even gives him a forum for it. PRU is free to offer its views and the views of others.

This is what newspapers used to be for.

I support Mr. Spanos' right to express his opinion. I do find it amazing, however, that there could still be people willing to turn a blind eye toward those we entrust with the power to govern, simply because "they give of their time."

Absolute power corrupts absolutely

Great response on the part of the PRU. As a newbie here, I am curious however, why you don't disclose your identities? Who knows, it may get you a free latte at Starbucks!

For the same reason you choose to post under an Google/Blogger account name.

Plus, for us, being anonymous is very useful protection to us and especially our sources.

Far too many people support the idea of free speech only when it's what they want to hear and say themselves...and the letter above is a sad example of that.

It also seems the people most reluctant to openly face off and debate...truly debate...the issues are those who are up to no good.

All the more reason to embrace many and differing outlets for information, discussion, and opinion...somewhere in there the truth and the best courses of action are to be found.

Best of luck to you, Mr. Spanos. Your synapses are likely to make some connections, eventually...

unfortunately, for some, the truth hurts. In this town there are MANY (far too many) supports of Mayor Howard who are blind to his crazy tactics. Because PRU and others help bring them out in the open, does not make it negative or wrong. sometimes the truth HURTS.

What?
I can't believe everything that comes out of Howard's mouth?
But he is a volunteer . . .

FAQ - Just how can the average citizen tell when Howard is not telling the truth?

ANSWER - There are multiple ways to figure out when Howard is spinning a yarn.

First, we could do extensive fact checking, corroborating those facts with multiple independent sources, and righting a Blog (Thanks PRU!)

Second, we could strap Howard to a lie detector at City Council Meetings a la that new game show on TV, providing entertainment to those who actually attend the meetings. This could be implemented when they decide to put meetings on cable access channel. However the power drain on the equipment may be substantial.

Or third, the old reliable fall back:
How can you tell when Howard is lying?
His lips are moving!

I realize I am stepping into the "way back machine," but whatever happened to the proposal to televise City Council meetings? This would be an eye-opener for a lot of members of the community who are unable to attend the meetings.
Of course, then Howie would turn off the cameras for his "special" behind-the-curtain sessions.
Does anyone know what is going on with this?

Yeah, Gene Spanos. Retired Rosemont copper. And he tells you that every time he sees you. Thinks he knows everything and tells you how it should be...according to him. He must love the way Park Ridge is now as politically corrupt as Rosemont. Park Ridge's new nickname, "Little Rosemont."

Televised meetings would be great, but didnt the city staff come up with a monster cost estimate for all sorts of bells and whistles so that nothing would get done?

I was at the budget meeting. The Council is committed to finding the money. For now at least, the TV is on. The Council members have taken alot of criticism, deservedly so. But they get a pat on the back for this one.
