Taste of Transparency?

If you had a chance to enjoy the offerings from the many vendors at the Taste of Park Ridge this past weekend, you can thank the people in the picture above -- along with many many other volunteers -- for organizing and carrying out the event.

Thank you, people in the above picture and many many others!

Last week our friends over at the Pub-dog's asked some questions about the financial arrangements of the Taste of Park Ridge event and corporation. The PRU Crew thinks the issues raised are worth exploring, and that the Pub-dog's questions are worth answering.

We're not sure if the strident objections to the Pub-dog's postings were because of their timing in writing their articles, or whether or not people really are foolish enough to prefer to look the other way on popular and well-liked events.

In either case, our hats are off to the Pub-dog's for looking past those things, daring to stand and be counted in the face of strong objections to hard questions about a popular event, and for forging ahead in the public light.

We're always going to support the public's right to know. So thank you also goes to the Pub-dog's.

Congats to everyone involved with the Taste. It was a lovely and well put together event.

Any chance that next year the event is held on Prospect? I've heard one or two rationales for moving it (saving the new landscaping at the library was the most oft mentioned one) and I can understand that motivation. Still, Prospect is wider and combining the Taste with the sidewalk sales makes for a nice concentration of people.

I wont’ get into my feelings about this subject because it has gone back and forth enough and I agree with those calling out for information.

I do want to say thank you to the Watchdog and our other blogs for paying attention to things that most of us are too busy to always pay attention to. Your bringing issues to public light are a service to all of us. Thank you.

Maybe we can ask the questions of ToPR board member Mayor Howie when he has the rest of the ToPR gang to a city council meeting for some "proK-lee-may-shun" reading, back slapping and self-congratulations.

Exactly how much does the event cost the city in Police and public works staff time??

Shouldn't any extra cash go to reimbursing the city, rather than to buying a table at a political sendoff for a long-time player?

You're welcome, Pru Crew.

We enjoyed the Taste ourselves and think its a great event. And you're right to give everyone associated with it a hearty "huzzah!"

Now that it's over, maybe the folks running it will consider doing the right thing and making the Taste (both corporation and event) completely transparent so that everybody could see exactly what they are doing, with whom, and where the money's going.

I also enjoyed the Taste and will continue to go no matter where my money ends up.

It's an event I enjoy so I don't really care if it's city sponsored or privately organized.

If the folks who run it make some dough off it, then good for them. If they want to come forward and tell me how much they made off me, then fine.

If not, then I'll just keep on thinking that Hay Caramba has all my cash and it won't bother me a bit.

Private Citizen --

Maybe you are confusing the individual vendors with the event organizers?

Glad to hear you enoyed yourself.

I like it. You should get that phrase copy written like that guy did "three peat".

Never mind Friends of Frimark already did.

During the Graylord scandal some crooked judge was quoted saying sometning like "You can't trust guys who won't take dough."

Didn't Dudycz, Iglow, Frimark and the others help run Taste when it was operated by the Chamber and the City? So why did the City and the Chamber dump it, to be picked up by Taste Inc - run by Dudycz, Iglow, Frimark etc?
