The Aldermoorons meet again!
Tonight the City Council COW discussion among the aldermen will take place at City Hall beginning at 6PM. As PRU readers know, the topic is about the proposed text amendment.pdf and licensing standards.pdf to be added to the city's zoning code, which will allow for the opening of temporary homeless shelters in Park Ridge. Do note that the agenda for tonight's meeting says "The meeting will commence with discussion among the Aldermen, Agenda Item #4", which is a nice way of saying "comments from the audience will not be continued or accepted."
Look for the adlermoorons to contort themselves into pretzels in their attempts to justify compromising over the text amendment and licensing standards for any temporary homeless shelters. All that compromising will function as the lube designed to enable our local politicians to act as the lucky Pierres between the pro-PADS PRMA and the thinking portion of the Park Ridge community.
We also expect to receive reports about a certain cow on city staff who is expected to once again chew gum with her mouth hanging open while she feigns detachment at the goings on.
Bellowing for the homeless!
We hear the bagpipes were a big hit last night at the St. Paul of the Cross protest march held to bemoan the delay in opening a PADS shelter in Park Ridge -- we're going to call it a "protest march" because another source tells us there may have been between 300 and 400 people blocking traffic as they marched across the six corners intersection in Uptown. According to the news report linked above, 12 churches are promoting the PADS shelter for Park Ridge. 12 churches? 400 people? That's only an average of 33 people per church! Not quite the turnout the good shepherds may have hoped for from their faithful flocks.
Deadline Tomorrow!
Are you registered to vote? Tomorrow is the deadline to register and be able to walk into your polling place and cast your vote, or participate in early voting. There is a 14-day grace period to register, but there are restrictions.
More information can be gotten from the Cook County Clerk's web site.

what's that story about the lemmings who follow the leader until they jump off a cliff? they follow blindly up to their death.
I wish I could've seen that 'march' through town. What a comedy.
Great! A protest march with real people in the streets!
Your getting a real taste of the people Fr. Carl. Is this what you want..a divided congregation ???
Did they turn left at the big intersection with torches and protest outside Howie's door ?
Just like in the old film where frankenstein was hunted down..throw the bum out!
When's the next protest march?
Forget purple ribbons around a tree..Let's stay proactive here.
Can we find a rail big enough to run them out of town - too?
Forget the tar and feathers!
Keep it up!
Thank you.
Has anyone heard about things missing from Maine South after the dance and not being there on Sunday to be picked up?
My rather limited sample had no problems getting their stuff.
My daughter was missing $40 and camera. She was one of the many who ran in shortly after the evacuation and grabbed her bag off the rack, only to find these missing. Several other girls in her group who also charged in were also missing their money.Several of us parents had to meet them at the restaurant to pay for the dinner. Most of her group of girls had left their bags/coats behind to be picked up Sun. Haven't heard if all their belongings were there.
yeah, what was with the gum anyway? Everyone I was sitting with couldn't believe it! Is that a new pads requirement? White tshirts and a wad of bubble gum? She certainly seemed to sneer at certain times, in support of pads. The bubble gum is a classy addition to the uniform.
I can't wait to hear about the meeting tonite, I'm pretty sure I won't be able to get there early enough. I know pru will fill us in!
I saw the vigil/pray-in. Looked like about 100 people to me, give or take. =Frankensteins monster indeed!
The march was an amazing event. Hundreds of Park Ridge parents were there showing their support of an effort to help others. The actions of a few self-involved fear-mongers merely delayed the PADS shelter. The shelter will open in PR because it's the right thing to do.
WHat has changed in the Churches in town. I remember a couple of years ago a neighbor of MSW had an issue with the parish having basketball nets in the parking lot on Cumberland. This former PRPD complained and complained. The youtes that were using the court played music and peed in the bushes and made other noise. So the neighbor, wanting to protect his family, complained to MSW and the nets were taken down.
Now, instead of fighting for b-ball nets, the church is fighting for a shelter. Not just any shelter, but a shelter in a school. (As I write, I realize tha the vote may have already been taken and the compromise I read about reached.) But how is this different? The church waited until there was a problem before acting (or reacting)? Was it the fact that the former PRPD (and defeated aldermoron candidate) was a friend of the mayor? Or did the church stop caring about the one set of neighbors that live in town in favor of another trucked in from other towns?
How is it that one or two complaints could get basketball nets taken down, but the concerns and complaints of substantially more neighbors regarding a homeless shelter fall on deaf ears?
I don't think it takes the wisdom of Solomon to find a solution here. It just takes some dialog and compromise. Too bad both sides are so entrenched in their positions to see that.
Pride. Its one of the seven.
Start talking a find a compromise.

How can you state that the candle/march people were all PARK RIDGE parents? And it looked like about 100 people from where I stood. Time for you to go to Confession!
anonymous at 8:00pm---
you have NO IDEA how wrong you are!
you're as out of touch as Howie is.

Those wanting PADS out of the schools have been asking for a compromise from the beginning. Have wanted and asked to be involved and have been shut out.
THe PRMA is guarded and bossy sharing ZERO information to anyone who is against PADS in a school. We have asked from day 1 to find a suitable site, an alternative site as well as an alternative plan. Why bring in new homeless to our area when there are those in Park Ridge needing attention - why not focus our attention on helping those families who are facig forclosure and unemployment - I would step up must faster to help those than welcome a homeless shelter run by PADS (another guarded, non-communicating, bossy organization).

Help people in forclosure? I am very frustrated with the so called bailout plan. I am one who loves helping others in need. However, as one who did not bury myself in dept, pay my bills on time, and manage my money,...why should I have to help pay for all the people who did not? Punish the ones who understand and let off the hook thoses who don't? Politics is a trickle down. It starts in Washington and the stupidity runs down to the villages and towns! How about a new concept? Start with reason and fairness at the towns and trickle up to Washington? Unfortunutely it has to start with a new Mayor!!!
What a bunch of idiots. All but two want to invite a shite load of homeless to our/my kids school. Fudge the children we want to save the poor innocent homeless victims of society. Well, we have provided much information, and they choose to not listen. Let the chips fall, right? gmab

I agree - people are facing tough economic times and they didn't prpare for it. I know some who are trying desperately to sell their homes to downsize - I don't see why I should bail them out when they have a nicer car than me and still have cable - but I will help those who struggle with their low wage job and will nto be getting any raises to deal with paying their heating bills and willing to help with some groceries for the elderly who can afford the rise in grocery bills -
let's let each church identify one family who is in dire need of services and try to help them - help them manage their bank account, help them budget, help them with donations of clothes, or food or gas money to get to work -
Those aldermen who chose not to listen will certainly listen when it comes election time. Right now they may think they are doing the right thing and whatever the mayor wants and what they think their constituents want - but when this becomes an election issue!?!?!
I hope they are prepared for what will happen. They should be aware that voters do not forget and they right now the aldermen THINK their constituents support them on this but wait, just wait until it trickles into the community, wait until it trickles into their tax bill, wait until it trickles out.
Then let's see who people vote for.
ANYONE who follows the moron of a mayor should be ashamed of themselves. He is the most unpolished mayor I have seen along with seeming to be drunk all the time he can't make a cohesive sentence without having to correct himself. EGADS!
Mayor Howard isn't much of a drinker that we've seen. But as you pointed out, his general inability to function well leaves some people to liken his demeanor to drunkeness.
I propose we open a shooting range within 500 ft. of all Pads shelters and nursing homes!!!
hey 1:20 take out the nursing homes and you have my vote. Shooting Range ......very funny! Thanks that's the first laugh I've had in a few days.
And yet a sex-oriented business still has to be 1000 ft from a place of worship? hmmmm...Im betting a majority of parents at all the churches in town may have actually HAD sex once!
Anyone read "The Spokesman"? Not one mention of the biggest story in town--PADS. Guess the mayor can't see the elephant in the room.
